I cannot comment on this item, but I have purchased a playhouse from Costco by the same brand.
It's been outdoors for 2 years and it is not fairing well. We did not cover it, and it has been snowed on, but for an outdoor playhouse I'm not happy. The wood is splitting and falling apart in multiple places.
Now, I'm not saying that means the play set here would be the same, but I'm very weary of these cheaper sets.
I was actually just in the market, and decided to build one out of wood because I was nervous about these cheaper sets falling apart. They felt sturdy enough that Costco, but I didn't trust the wood would last so I decided to build one. The fact that I made one is the reason that I can tell you this set is worth it, just for the slides alone.
I paid $250 for a 5ft wavy slide. A tube slide is $800 minimum. I reused the swings from our old set, but that's probably another. $50-100. I went to playset seller, and a 7 ft tube slide was $1300
I would say if your kid is older (5-7) and will likely only use this for a few years, go for it.
If you have little ones and want to keep this for 10 years (like I plan to) I would expect to have to reinforce it or do some replacing over the years.
I would have seriously considered buying this for the slides alone, and giving away the rest had I not already built mine. It is insane that these kits include slides that cost as much as the kit itself if purchase solo.
I have a similar set in my backyard for over 5 years. I've done 0 of the recommended maintenance and I've had several drunk adults sitting in the 2nd floor house . It's held up really well living in the northeast
We have another version of this set from costco that has a tower on top.
Our 1.5 year old daughter loves it.
The wood is just ok. My dad and I added a beefier piece of wood bracing inside the house where the swing set attaches to the main structure. It wad obvious to us that was a weak point of the design. This model might be slightly different though. Overall good for the money

Yes we actually just purchased this last week at $999 from Walmart and noticed the price drop and called Walmart and had it adjusted.... Walmart is good for that. ALSO... Purchasing from Walmart - if you run into any issues with your item, they are good for giving additional discounts or sending replacement parts, etc. So me and my husband decided on this one despite some mixed reviews.
We were contemplating getting the one at Costco also, but didn't want to spend $1400 for it, although it looked large and had a lot of features.
We will see how this one goes - have not built it yet! Got it for 1.5 year old as well.

Can you share some info about the dimension after the installation? Maybe there is drawing in the instruction.
If you're handy, you can build these for less and make them modular to make it more relevant as your children grow bigger. Believe it or not, it's the damn slide that costs the most with the 4X6 lumber used to bolt the swings on being the next expensive.

I have the Costco wood playset and the issue for me was the cheap stain they use on it. After one year in AZ it started looking bad but the wood wasn't split yet.
I picked up a gallon of good stain from Home Depot and sprayed it with a $15 Harbor Freight HVLP gun. The wood still looks good 5 years in. Now the plastic is looking sun faded.

Ouch that sucks... i just built my Costco KidKraft Cedar set... while i would not say the wood is high quality, it definitely needs to be sealed. I sealed the entire set before i built it with solid exterior paint and i would say it would easily dull without being sealed. Cedar is definitely on the softer side of things, if left-untreated it would definitely not age well.

That's great, I'm glad it's working out for you.
I should have mentioned, on our playhouse, the wood was two colors, red and grey
The Red wood I painted black for protection and for the appearance. The grey wood I sealed with Thompsons.
I only sealed it once, so assuming the thompsons is effective for 1 yr, a lot of damage has occurred in that extra year. I should have resealed after the 1st year so that's my bad, but realistically I would assume most people aren't properly maintaining these sets either.
Regarding the wood, I may be wrong, but my understanding is that this "cedar" is not the traditional cedar you would find at a lumber yard. These sets usually use Chinese cedar, which I believe is still rot and bug resistant, but not as tough as the American version.
Again don't quote me on that, but I know that some companies claim their wood is "cedar" but it can be deceiving to assume it's the same cedar your Adirondack chairs may be made out of.
Another note, when I mentioned 5' / 7' slides, I meant deck height, not actual slide. The wavy slides tend to be twice as long as deck height so my slide in my 5' deck is 10 ft long. I got my 10' slide off Amazon for $260.
