While planning to buy a smoker I noticed some Traeger grill and smokers went on sale. I ended up grabbing the Ironwood 650 ($1250, normally $1400).

Looks like Costco's Silverton 620 is discounted too: "$100 manufacturer's savings is valid 4/29/22 through 5/8/22. While supplies last. Limit 5 per member.

Whatever you got 8 years ago may not be the same as GM today, and Traeger certainly is not, so that seems like an apples/oranges comparison
Does that mean they are worth a $500 premium? Maybe not, but they aren't junk. Also, GMG are made in China as well and the comparable models cost the same as the Pro/Ironwood.
This is my personal experience, and I know there's been several other users here and other sites that have complained about the quality after the outsource. RecTeq, Mak, Yoder, Weber, Camp Chef, Pit Boss, Z-Grills...all are better options. My GMG Jim Bowie is fantastic for me, prob not the best, but still a better option than traeger. Pre 2006 traeger are great too. And while most are made in China, which I don't care too much about, traeger uses the cheapest and thinnest materials.
The majority of this is personal opinion, no need to get all butthurt about it. But the majority of professional BBQ teams that use pellets do not use traeger. And I trust the tour pros over some website or consumer reports.

The majority of professional bbq teams use custom built. This is for residential use, if you are a pro smoking on something under $5K you probably aren't a pro. I'm not butt hurt, I just find it interesting you are saying Traeger sucks yet the materials are being sourced from the same factories as your GMG probably lol. But as you said, it's all personal preference so we are both entitled to our opinions.

What are the cons (what can't it do) vs normal propane grill? Just max temps & heating time?
