The sales pitch is that it heats more evenly than an iron, but I have no idea if that is true

Pardon my ignorance, but how is this different from an iron? Still new to the hobby, just trying to figure out the best way to get things onto shirts

Yes, it heats more evenly and consistently. You'll get much better results for heat pressing vinyl than you would with an iron.

I felt the exact same way at first, hated these like I view crocs. Someone gave a cricut press to me and I use it more often because of the timer and how quick it takes to heat up. I recently found these are awesome upside down in a shirt to remove sections of vinyl if you needed. I picked up this little guy so I don't have to crank up the giant press for a small quick press. Thx for the find.

I thought this was a raspberry pi, then an iron. If this heats evenly, does it means it can use as an iron?

It's not different. It is smaller.

FYI this thing is VERY small, which isn't a bad thing, but I'd watch some review videos to see if it's good for your needs.

What a waste of money when you can get the job done with 10$ iron. Hype
You might be able to do the same job with a decent iron which BTW costs 30-40$ a $10 iron will get you... $5 worth of good usage before realizing that $10 iron is a piece of crap. Sadly cheap irons are exactly that these days. Cheap.

These are perfect for perler beads, not just iron on vinyl!

Can anyone recommend a good company that prints custom heat transfer sheets for this? I don't craft I just want to put my logo on some work shirts every now and then and don't want to set up a printer just for that.
