I believe you're thinking of the TRU RED composition notebooks and/or the Staples 1-subject notebooks that were on sale for $0.50 for back-to-school. See HERE.

The 12-pack of TRU RED dot grid notepads was previously a Frontpage deal at $9.80; the price just dropped to $6.80. Yes, they're now $0.57 each.

Optik paper is nowhere near this price, sorry. Also, I just browsed Amazon and don't see any dot grid notepads anywhere near this price ($0.57/ea). This really is a slick deal, maybe for people who aren't needing premium paper.

In the past, these have been very thin paper with very large dots, not ideal for notes or sketches.

No, not that I know of.

I believe you're thinking of the back-to-school sale last year on the 1-subject lined notebooks. Those were on sale last fall at Walmart, Target, and Staples. Oh, and I think OfficeMax, too.

I was more commenting on the fact that the @ymarker mentioned they were 50 cents last year as if this deal wasn't somehow comparable. Not intended as a complaint.

Got interested last time, and passed on this deal last time. I use gel and fountain pens and by reviews, this paper appears to be really thin and not good quality.

I gladly pay more for good paper. Get me a deal on Optik paper and I'm a sold man.

Totally. I don't expect optik to go down this low. If this paper fits a person's use case, it's a very good deal.

I bought these a few week ago from Staples for about this price. Good deal.

But I will agree with the comment about the dots. They are bigger and darker than then need to be. And I would like the paper a whole lot more if the dots were smaller and lighter.

Dotted grid paper helps to align things in rows and columns. It serves the same purpose as lined paper or graph paper. Nice for field notes and architectural sketches. Also for making tables of data. Dots are less distracting than printed lines or squares, so your work looks cleaner.

This is useful thanks! I was hoping it would be a cheaper version of Rhodia pads. Not hoping it would be comparable but not too much feathering and bleeding etc. I am learning pointed dip pen copperplate and modern brush pen calligraphy and have surprised to discover how important paper actually matters even for practicing (and expensive!). Been using HP 32 paper and interested in even cheaper alternatives.
