Deep Space Nine is not HD? Was it ever translated into HD? I LOVED that series?

DS9 and VOY were both shot on film, but finished/mastered to standard def with the majority of visual effects rendered in standard def. So it's a considerably larger effort (and greater cost) to convert to HD than TNG was.

For TNG, can anyone confirm if this includes the Blu Ray extras/documentaries? It doesn't appear so.

As a Windows/Linux user, can I download these locally using the Windows version of iTunes so I can watch them with VLC?
I know I was able to do that with the music I purchased on iTunes.

Thanks OP, but how do I purchase the full series? The link takes me to apple.com, then I click and it says "watch on Apple TV," I click allow, and then it will only let me purchase each season individually.

NVM, I figured it out. Thanks again OP!

Based on similar threads it appears to only be the show - no bonus features/commentaries.

DS9/Voyager has AI upscales to 1080p available elsewhere, they look pretty good from previews.

Some of the AI upscales are great, others are ruined by scaling artifacts. As part of the recent documentary on DS9, they actually did restore several scenes fully into HD and it looks incredible.

DS9 is not in HD. The effects elements were composited in video so they would need to rescan all the footage and essentially redo all the effects as they had done in TNG. This is very expensive, so unfortunately Paramount has not remasted DS9 yet.

Maybe in 2010 the costs were staggering, but in 2022 I'm sure the price has become more manageable. Crossing my fingers for a voyager remaster.

While the technology has advanced to make "re-rendering" less expensive, it's the sheer man-hours to collect, organize, and composite all the content. Those costs have only increased since then.

TNG had orders of more magnitude of interest, and even then - Paramount didn't recoup much of their investment in the process.

While costs are likely far cheaper now, the "failure" of the remastered TNG is likely to cool any interest in doing the subsequent series.

Paramount is likely making their money back thanks to streaming and syndication - neither of which would've been profitable if TNG was still standard def.
