Note that this contains alcohol, which dries out your skin. Some dermatologists say that leads to more acne.

I moved away from this toner due to the alcohol and have noticed a difference.
When my son had blackheads removed, the dermatologist recommended using witch hazel after to keep them from turning into white heads. It is also a daily driver for him. We haven't had issues with it drying his face out but he only does it in the morning.

Benefit to using this or other Dickinson's witch hazel products over generic witch hazel?

Since Dickinson's original witch hazel toner is 100% witch hazel plant, I am guessing the alcohol is natually from the plant, not like the company added alcohol to the toner. The rosewater toner says no alcohol in it.

You used different toner now? What do you use?

I have been using Dickinson's original witch hazel toner for many years, and it has made my skin softer and my pores less noticeable. I also have used Dickinson's witch hazel from first aid department to use on my face because it was a little cheaper. As I recall, the ingredients were same as witch hazel toner, and it worked same as the toner. I need to ry rosewter toner. I like to use witch hazel toner to freshen up my face after sweating during summer time. It feels really good doing that.
I now use Thayer's - which is also a Witch Hazel Toner, but it's alcohol-free.

I don't think the alcohol is from the Witch Hazel - I think it's an additional ingredient to the Dickinson's.

Oh, I see. The companies add something like vodka (grain alcohol) to preserve the fresh witch hazel extract. (I did some googling.)

Looks like Thayer's witch hazel toner has phenoxyethanol as preservative. Also, I am surprised to see it has a lot more stuff added to the toner than witch hazel.

"Ingredients :

Purified Water, Certified Organic Witch Hazel Ext Blend (Hamamelis Virginiana Extract (Witch Hazel*), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice (Filet of Aloe Vera*)), Glycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance (Natural Witch Hazel), Citric Acid, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Seed Extract *Denotes Certified Organic Ingredient The carefully selected, naturally sourced ingredients in this product may have undergone limited processing."

Thanks for the recommendation. I will try it when I get a chance.

I use to work with some black dudes during a war. We had communal bathroom trailer units. The black dudes used witch hazel. I asked one of the guys what witch hazel was because it sounded like some potion. He said black dudes use it to prevent razor bumps.

That's why I originally said I think that, but I'm still not really sure what a witch hazel toner is for, and I figured that being the internet, someone might lash out and tell me if I'm wrong.
Black dude here. I've tried many things, and Witch Hazel is the only thing that prevents bumps. I have to use immediately after shaving.

I'm not sure what the difference is between "toner" and "astringent" witch hazel, but they both have 14% alcohol, 86% water and nothing else. Walmart's regular witch hazel is $2.57 if you don't need toner. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Equate...hbdg=L1600

I have a tip for old timers with asteroids (don't ask how I know). Buy regular unscented baby wipes (Sam's Club are good). Wring out the pack in a sink to get rid of the excess liquid and replace it with an equal amount of regular witch hazel. Put the pack of wipes in a plastic container to store. You now have Preparation H wipes for a fraction of the cost.

Thanks, man. That's been my only experience with it in my life, so I was just wondering what other uses people were using it for. Have a good day.

Baby wipes are SO useful for 'whatever' Imho... I just thought I'd suggest using distilled water for the rinsing out part.. tap water tends to get yucky (though the alcohol may arrest that for awhile). Even filtered is probably better than straight tap water. Juzt sayin *}

They are handy. I don't rinse them I just wring out the existing liquid from the wipes and replace with witch hazel.

The hydrating version that is also listed does not. Says on the bottle.

This is my go-to toner. I have mild rosacea (under control by prescription from dermatologist) so this is super gentle on my skin and doesn't cause breakouts. I love this stuff. Great deal! Thank you OP!
What prescription do you use on your rosacea
