While these are good tools, this price is unreasonable. Not to mention "retail price" of nearly $100. Yeah right. Amazon.de often sells Knipex for about half of what they sell on Amazon.com $25-$30 would be an OK price. $15 would be a killer price.

Not sure if the tether point usually commands a premium. If so this could be a good deal. But $50-60 is regular market price for the chrome plated 180mm pliers wrench I think.

The 3c say this is its lowest ever. It does seem high in price for its size.

Yes, I've noticed the tether point versions of their tools have always been $15-$20 extra in the US. Amazon.de lists them closer in price at 47€ and 50€ (with MSRP OF 47€ and 69€).

My guess for why the large premium is 2 fold. First, less of the tethered versions are imported and second, those who must have the tether are probably in the trades and products aimed at businesses are always ridonkly priced.

As for this deal post, it's a decent deal if you've always wanted the tether. If you'd have been fine w the regular version then it's not a deal at all.

Just checked the 3C's and the lowest price was $54.99 on Sep 10, 2018 with $65 being somewhat normal. Not a steal and perhaps a bit high for what it is, but the tethered versions have always brought a premium. For me, it is thumb up....

Just stupid for a home user. You'll get the job done for 1/10th the price in a kit tool.

Menards sells the standard version of this for $57.29, so not a bad deal with the cushioned grips and tether point.

Project Farm recently did testing on a bunch of pliers similar to these, Knipex included: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjDG4gaiRp8

I don't think his testing included this exact model, but Knipex did very well in the testing, for reference.

This is the real pro tip here. I've ordered all my Knipex from Amazon.de on sale. As long as you don't mind waiting its usually the best option.

First of all, it's a good price on THESE Knipex pliers. There are questions whether Knipex pliers wrench pliers (in this case, with comfort grips) is worth this price, but that's a separate argument. Considering the knock-off HFT ICON pliers wrench pliers are $40, only $15 more for Knipex with comfort grips seems reasonable even if comparing against HFT prices.

All of the above said, I'm not sure I'm sold on the comfort grips. I like the normal plasti-dip style handles, personally.

I have each type of grip in the Cobras (and others). While I really don't mind using the regular ones, the comfort grip are arguably nicer to use. However, they take up a lot more space in the toolbox, bag, pouch, or pocket and don't fit in the plier organizer that I have in my big tool box's pliers drawer.

Plus, the comfort grip is typically more expensive and I'm not sure it's worth it to pay more for them. But alas, I've purchased all my Knipex on deals and get what's on sale. Sometimes that's the normal grip, other times its the comfort grip - which isn't a deal breaker for me either way.

Chadstoolbox has the same product for the same price, tax free. I've bought almost all of my European-made tools from them. Highly recommended. Free shipping on orders over $99.
