That high quality tools are expensive doesn't necessarily mean that they are overpriced.

For real. I'm in my mid 30s and my mom (lol, real talk here, she's bad ass like April Wilkerson or whatever on Youtube) would thrift the fark out of tooling when I was a toddler. She's grab all the standards (Craftsman #2 Phillips, Stanley #4s, that Dewalt/Black&Decker Radial Arm saw, etc) for probably 20% of retail. Most of the stuff is circa 70s. I grabbed em eh about a decade ago and I've been so mean to them.

Sshe bought one of those hand-actuated staple guns (to post flyers on trees and shit). It's just hand crunch, spring return. There's a little pitting but the way the return action registers...I'm 100% sure that piece of shit will outlive me, and I'm pretty sure it was just economy consumer model based on the rivet construction (which is the weak spot, and good. that's a good place to fail first.) Exact same thing with the Vice-Grips. The temper on those springs--the attention to detail.

For hand tools, I'm abashedly afraid to admit that the Pittsburgh (Automotive?) line of 3/8ths ratches were a pretty good deal. I think they're hexavalent chro-van'd, or something but I haven't seen *any* degradation. The Husky line was (maybe still is?) also a pretty good deal for single-wrenches. I needed a metric 21mm for some odd ball reason. Short notice, got it from HD for well under ten buckaroos. it's doing pretty good from what I can tell, but I'm not a mechanic so it doesnt get abused like someone in a garage would. But the shit left outside for entire winters, no pitting, no rust all good

Japan, Korea and Taiwan all export pretty high quality shizzzy. The Chinamen could really get there, they just have to like..give a shit a little more?
