What is the best way to make one of these work on an Olympus M5 mark 2 with a micro 4/3 mount?

Does anyone have a recommended adapter brand and style that would make sense with other brands?

I don't know how these other styles will convert over if I wanted to buy any other lens. I'm sure most, if not all, will not allow the auto focus and such to work.
I'm just thinking maybe certain mounts have cheaper lenses, better compatability, or a better selection of unique lens types.

Thanks.

Nikon F is probably the mount with the most interesting lenses available, and F can be adapted to almost any other mount. If you're going to pick a mount for this lens to shoot on a system this lens isn't made in, I'd pick Nikon F.

You did mention retaining autofocus. Be aware, this lens does not autofocus. That's not a real problem for this lens, however, as autofocus at 2.5x would be borderline impossible.

Unfortunately, Nikon F is not part of this sale. It's only the Canon RF, Leica L, and Nikon Z.
I wasn't worried about having autofocus because I figured features like that wouldn't work anyways.
Thanks though.

You cannot adapt RF, Z or L to m4/3. You can adapt EF or F mount, but those are not part of the deal. The EF one does come with a $50 Adorama gift card, so it's nearly as good of a deal if you can use the credit.

One thing to keep in mind is that you already get a 2x crop boost with m4/3, so these extreme 2.5-5x macro may be too much. This can ONLY shoot in the extreme macro range, and it will be even more crazy extreme on m4/3 sensor. They can't take normal photos.

The Olympus 30mm f3.5 macro ($229) has AF and aperture control and does 1.25x macro. With the crop factor you'll be getting shots that look like 2.5x macro on the FF cameras this Venus lens was designed for. But you'll also be able to do more normal 0.25x-1x macro as well as just take normal everyday shots out to infinity. I think it would be a better pick for 99.9% of people. Unless you have special projects in mind with focusing rails and specialized lighting.

Technically, sensor size and crop factor have no effect on reproduction ratio ("magnification"). 1x means there is a 1:1 ratio between the size of the virtual image on the image plane and the object in front of the camera. Putting a 1:2 (0.5x) macro lens on a crop camera produces the same reproduction ratio as on full frame. The crop sensor just crops that virtual image and so the object fills more of the frame. We can call this "cropping" or "enlargement" as opposed to magnification. It is true that with a similar amount of pixels on a sensor smaller than FF, the smaller sensor can enlarge the pictured object more for display, potentially counteracting a lens with a smaller reproduction ratio. However, smaller sensors have other downsides: diffraction sets in earlier, limiting resolution. And larger magnification increases the effective focal length and f-stop of a lens—at 1x your f-stop is 2 stops greater than what it says on the side of the your manual lens, and at 2x it is 3.17 stops greater. Small sensors like M4/3 may hit their diffraction limits or go well past them even with the lens wide open. Plus you need sharper lenses to resolve denser pixels on smaller sensors, and enlarging magnifies lens flaws. And M4/3 tends to have lower pixel counts than APSC, limiting enlargement somewhat.

In general, though, the advice that most people will be fine with a small sensor and 1:2 or 1:1 macro lens is good. Anything greater than 2x gets hard to handle, fast. It is not, however, the case that you'll get the same image quality as a 2x–5x lens on a FF sensor, especially a high-resolution one (~50 MP). Not to mention, as you said, with a normal macro lens you can focus to infinity (and sometimes beyond!), which you can't do with this one.

You could use a viltrox to mft.

Oh just note on a mft it becomes 50mms so super close from far away. You might want to consider a cheap analog Ef to mft as there is no af with these and a tiny bump blurs your photo. However these are almost good enough to take a picture of an insects reproductive organ.

The Minolta 200/F4 macro is the one you want if you're doing Macro shots for a living. Switching platforms is justified.

I fully understand the "technical" explanation of magnification, but that was more relevant in the film era when 1:1 meant the object would be be life size on the negative or slide. Now it means very little given that you may be comparing different sensor sizes with the same resolution, or same sensor sizes with different resolutions.

For real-world usage, it comes down to how small of an object can I fill my frame with and have it still be in focus. And for that, the crop factor definitely applies. If I use a 1x lens on m4/3 and fill the frame with a small subject, I would need 2x magnification to do the same with a full frame sensor. That's a much more useful metric to me, and why I always apply the crop factor to magnification.

I mean its the same argument as focal length. A 50mm lens is still 50mm on a 2x crop m4/3 sensor. But it doesn't act the same as it does on a FF sensor, so we say it is 100mm equivalent. So yes the Olympus 30mm macro is 1.25x mag, but it is 2.5x mag equivalent. .
