Not a bad deal but the Costco version of this TV was on sale for $300 within the last 15 days. If you need something right now by all means feel free, just wanted to let you know that if not urgent it may be worth holding off.
Hot garbage software on these TVs. Constant freezing and slow as molasses running uphill.

If you're going to use it with a third party device (Apple TV, NVIDIA Shield, etc.) it'll be fine, but just know that trying to do anything other than turn it on, turn it off, or adjust the volume, and you'll be frustrated.
I have a Vizio M8 from 2019, and it's been disappointing. Reviews were excellent at the time and it boasts far more local dimming zones. Unfortunately, software issues have plagued it. Smartcast is trash; I just use a Roku Ultra. The TV routinely will restart and sometimes won't respond when trying to turn it on. It also seems to have issues sometimes recognizing the Samsung soundbar system hooked up to the ARC port. Also, I noticed now the center of the screen, maybe 1/10 of the screen area, is dimmer and brownish in color. It definitely looks ugly in some shots.

I used to love Vizio TVs in their early days, and I was very excited and optimistic about this one. However, I likely won't buy another one. I've also seen and read of too many problems from review units and consumer experiences.

You may say, yeah, but I'm not spending that much. Trust me, save your money and get something a little better. I feel like the $750 I spent was a bad deal now, especially when I have a 2015 Samsung SUHD that still looks and performs incredibly to this day.

These Vizio TV sales are due to sitting in shipping containers for a year and now finally released. Worth buying if you need a low cost TV that aren't the "cheap Black Friday TV"

The M556-H4 is going to be pretty low in locals/dimming zones and brightness. It doesn't even looking like they list it on the page https://www.vizio.com/en/tv/m-series/M556-H4

I'm going to guess 12 or less zones as that's what the 65" has. The previous year had 10 zones.
https://televisionspecs.com/vizio-m656-h4/
For a frame of reference, the M658-G1 from the year before had 90 zones.

What about switching inputs?

Currently have a Hisense 55H8F that I'm ready to throw to the curb between the lag switching inputs, changing volume, etc., and not to mention the constant handshake issues with ARC and my soundbar.

While probably not far from the truth however I do have to ask....how do you know this to be true or is this just a guess or internet scuttlebutt?

Low end Vizio TVs are notorious for their back light LED's turning blue or purple because of inferior chemicals/manufacturing processes used. Not worth the headache when TV's fail within a few years even if they are this cheap to buy.

It's not great, but it's not the worst that I've experienced either. I can normally switch from PlayStation to Nvidia shield and it takes 4-5 seconds to recognize the input change.

I agree 100 percent. It got better when we put a Roku on it.

I have the same tv m55-g8. I have a fire stick attached to it and avoid their buggy software. It does restart once in a while but since I don't watch TV too much, it only happens once a month or so. One fix I recently read was to put it on UPS backup or some regulator. It seems like visio TV protection kicks in on the slightest fluctuation and restarts itself. Not sure if that is true. I also found some HDR to be too dim on this TV. But then I only spent $550 for this TV so it's all acceptable to me at this point.

Bought the 65" version. The first one came with a cluster of dead pixels. Had it replaced and second one came with smaller cluster, so I just kept it. Have had issues with the TV ever since. Mostly with the apps/software. In the past it would occasionally turn off by itself/wouldn't turn on unless I unplugged it and plugged it back in. The HBO app is almost unusable and constantly flickers in and out. Has a lot of issues when connecting PC to it. The picture looks decent for the price though. Will avoid Vizio in the future.
