I just learned about the center screw on slick deals a couple weeks ago. Are you supposed to take off the faceplate to use it, or do you just screw it in over it?

490J is pretty meager as far as surge protection goes, you can find a much higher rating on similarly priced units that dont include a cheap 2.4a usb (Baseline, no fast-charge). if youre worried about surges, look for a nicer model.

People will actually trust this cheap knock off crap from a fly by night seller with electricity surging through it and hoping it doesn't burn your house down? Ok…. 🤷🏻 ♂️

I TD hopefully to save people's misery if these cheap outlets from a no name brand causes an issue. I used fake spot to check and the grade was a D a month ago and then now a C after Amazon removed some reviews.

Some older styles of these were designed with a recessed back so it would install flush to the wall when existing plate was removed for aesthetic purposes only. If the one you buy has no such recess in the back, just leave your wall plate on and install this over it.

What would be the best version of this that's more trustworthy. I think I could use something like this and would love to get a recomendation.

Depending on the size of the face plate as well. I have one in the room with a bigger face plate and needed to remove for a flush install
