American Express via Amex Offers is offering Select American Express Cardholders: Get a $5 statement credit by using your enrolled eligible card to spend a minimum of $50 in one or more purchases in-store or online at a U.S. supermarket by 8/5/2022. Limit of 4 statement credits (total of $20).
I finally got an e-mail notification for the $5 off Suprmarket deal after shopping at Kroger yesterday. It seems to me not every transaction coded as "supermarket" is automatically considered "US Supermarket" in this deal. But I suspect Kroger, Safeway and their brands would be safe bets. Also, my transaction yesterday was only $40 so it does not need to be over $50 per transaction.
And yet Kroger didn't work for me and I was told Kroger didn't count. See my posts above.
You know what? The way AMEX is awarding credit or not seems to imply that this promo is for SMALL Grocery stores, NOT major chains like Kroger or Meijer. I shop primarily at Safeway, my regional big grocery chain, and the chat just old me that none of my Safeway purchases counted. Only my 99 Ranch and Sprouts purchases counted! This is even though Safeway earns 5x HIlton Honors pts for me as a 'US Grocery' category.
It gets more interesting. They said 3 purchases I made counted: 1 each at Cupertino Market, Sprouts, and 99 Ranch. However, another purchase at 99 Ranch did NOT get credit, and none of my Safeway purchases got credit. So definitely screwy things are happening.
The way the chat person is wording things makes me think they are from overseas. They say to wait 90 days before trying to dispute anything. so that'd be in Aug/Sept timeframe . And it's not just one retailer (like Safeway) not getting any credit. One 99 Ranch purchase got credited, but not another one, which was sandwiched in time between 2 purchases that did get credit. It'll be a pain in the a** to try to sort it out and dispute it later, since I won't know which ones they counted and which ones they didn't.

My datapoints:
I made 4 purchases:
1. About $40 at Kroger
2. About $10 at Sprout
3. About $20 at 99 Ranch
4. About $40 at Kroger-> Got an e-mail notification right away:
"Great news! You recently used your Amex Offer at KROGER GROCERY"
Based on all our datapoints it's a mystery how this works.
*Hmm...based on my datapoints. Do I need to spend $50 at one single grocery store?
Maybe that's what it requires.

I think I'm in a similar situation as you, I made 4 transactions all at Ralphs (owned by Kroger), but I only got an email notification and the credit the next day for the 4th transaction.
Going through AMEX chat, they're doubling down on the "eligible purchase" without really explaining how they differentiate. The agent tried to use the "third party merchant/mobile wallet" thing but jokes on them, my Ralphs store doesn't have tap to pay!
This would be hilarious if it's actually a buy 4 times, get $5 one time deal.

I think you may be right.
Maybe Amex's software is looking for $50+ at the same grocery store chain.
I made one $100 purchase at Wegmans on June 1 and got the cashback on June 6.
Made 2 purchases of $50 at shoprite over a month ago. I spoke to CS, got escalated, and still no credit. CS says the case is closed and to wait 90 days per T&C. I bought gift cards which are excluded per T&C but I've always gotten the credits in the past
A $5 credit posted to my account today, dated 6/21. It's titled after a Kroger co. store I've shopped at.
I'm still due one more $5 credit based on my spending thus far.
My second credit posted at some point over the weekend and is dated for 6/24.
I looked back across my statements and it looks like the first credit was titled after the final qualifying charge (a Kroger co. store) but the second one is titled after the first qualifying store after the Kroger co. charge. IDK if this tells us anything with regards to carryover of purchase totals >$50 towards the next credit.
It seems to me Amex offers credits that do not come from 3rd paeties are all taking longer to post. I wonder if Amex is having some financial problem so they are delaying the posting to help cashflow.
I had the same suspicion. I rarely had issues with credits posting, but in the last couple of months I've had not only issues with Amex Offers but also for card benefits like Walmart+ and Digital Entertainment on Platinum.
I had to call and chat several times to get the Walmart+ credit that had not posted in a month. Recently, I argued for 40 min. about a Digital Entertainment credit. (I did not start out argumentative, but the agent—who really did not understand these credits—kept telling me I was wrong when I was right. I've been an Amex member since 1999. I'm versed in these card benefits and Amex Offers.)
Third credit posted today for a qualifying charge from 7/1.
IDK if it's bad coding or what but there's definitely something going on with AmEx Offers. I'm now seeing credits for this offer I enrolled for in March. I had totally written off the qualifying charges and was hoping to use the offer towards a larger premium later in the year. I'm officially annoyed now.
I guess I owe Amex an apology. I just got 2 random $5 credits from Kroger that have to be from this offer. The thing is I already got the money from complaining. And I haven't used this card at Kroger since May since I wasn't getting the credits quickly and they were saying Kroger wasn't a supermarket. So it took them almost the full 3 months for the credits to show up. Very bizarre.
