I had Roku and Firestick because both were reasonably priced but I had constant issues connecting to apps to watch. The main issue I eventually had were the ads that were always showing and with young kids in the home, I didn't need them constantly bombarded with things they shouldn't be seeing. I finally decided to go with the Apple TV and have had no complaints about connection issues or ads. Hope that helps.

Tell me why I need this. I'm looking for a reason to upgrade over Roku.

You probably dont need it if u arent having any issues with Roku. I am exclusively roku currently, having been heavy into android/firetv for years. After dealing with bloat/app lag and now random HDMI CEC issues, ive finally convinced myself to go with apple tv. Ive read that they are just hassle free and perform very well. I have a plex server and use the typical streaming services and am just hoping to find an better experience with a rechargeable remote. You should take a look at the costco apple tv thread as there are many more posts with more reasons you might want to consider.

Apple TV 4K for $149.99. Additional 5% cash back if you have the Amazon card. And same day shipping in some locations. Same deal as Costco but you can get the additional 5% if you have the Amazon card.

If you have Apple devices, the integration is better. For example, one pair of Airpods will automatically connect to whichever iThing you happen to be using at that moment.

Better looking UI, airpod compatible(game changer) and the big one for me is the YouTube app being less buggy and less back and forth changes that usually are annoying(ie. scrubbing with button hold or constant tap). Pretty sure I'm missing some other great feature. As a diehard Roku fan that has been through numerous generations , I don't see myself coming back.

Edit: YouTube feud with roku is really annoying. I'm not saying it won't happen with Apple but I believe they been on good terms with Apple from the start.( Correct me if wrong)

This is the main reason we use Apple TV. Roku is non stop ads. Haven't researched this recently but when we went Apple it had the most robust parental controls too.

Yes. You can use the app Infuse ($9.99/yr) and it can support Dolby Vision/Atmos playback. I'm sure there are other free apps but Infuse is very good. It will handle syncing with the NAS files and downloading posters and such.

How does this compare to the Nvidia Shield? Can I load Kodi on this thing easily?

My roommate had the older version which he had to jailbreak to install Kodi. Nor sure about this one, but if I'd have to guess, it will need jailbreaking as well

Okay thanks. I'll go with the Nvidia Shield then. Seems like a better product for my needs.

That's the right choice if you are going the Kodi/Plex route.
