My church use this to turn on the video production PC and let some user to RDP to it. It works surprising well and it is way better than WOL.

if you want to control light switch without neutral, check this out. it's a bit more expensive but looks nicer and you will know the light status from your phone. i am not sure if switchbot update status if you manually turn light on/off. this one does. Third Reality Smart Light Switch (Gen 3 Starter Kit) Control Any Toggle or Rocker Wall Switch, No Wiring Required. 1 ZigBee Switch and 1 Hub. Compatible with Alexa and Google Home. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09JWH5...66ADKGR2KB

It looks like you can use your phone to control the switch over Bluetooth but if you need wifi connection then hub is required. Same with getting Google or Alexa to connect to it for routines, you'll need a hub.

I have one of these rigged up on my apartment buzzer, so that I can let people into the building without getting up off my fat a**.

Very cool little gadget, I'll pick up another just in case I find another use for it. The other commenters are correct, you need the hub to get this thing on your Wifi and control it when you're not home. Otherwise, I have to get my phone in bluetooth range.

If you use Home Assistant, the Switchbot integration can apparently control this device over Bluetooth directly, obviating the need for a hub. YMMV, obviously.

True, the one big flaw of SwitchBot (they're too arrogant/lazy to tweak this) is that it isn't treated as a momentary switch at places like SmartThings -- rather, an on/off switch, and worse, doesn't keep track anyway.

Is this a Zigbee/Zwave device, or need it's own proprietary hub? If so it's a no-go .. I don't want every guy's hub hanging off my network switch. Need to keep that limited.

Bought one just because I always wanted one laugh out loud My house is pretty light on neutral wiring so I'm sure I can find a switch to use this with.

seems like for smart things you still need the switchbot hub to make it work. however, for my use case i think i can get by with setting it up via bluetooth and then never interacting with it again.

I plan on setting up an alexa routine so that whenever someone claps, the lights turn on or off. This may be a very big endeavor but if it works I believe it will be a life changer.
Clap on, clap off, the clapper! 😂

I use one with the Hub and with their Temperature sensor to turn on a "gun safe" Rod Heater when temp inside cabinet falls below freezing.
