Get yourself a cheap GPU like a RX 6400 and you have a decent Roblox, Minecraft, Fortnight, etc system for a kid.

For office type work, they are all fine. If you do want to do some light gaming, then the 2 you posted would be better for that but you would probably want to get another 8GB of RAM for them. If you dont do any gaming they would all work fine as is for office/web stuff.

Beware OEM proprietary power supplies and cases if you plan to add a graphics card. This is a fine office computer though.

Probably a decent deal, even though I think this has been this price for a while or on sale often.

Costco's warranty is the advantage over similar specs and prices.

However, I think most PCs in this low to mid range are kind of trashy. Dell has gotten cheap, along with seemingly every other company. Personally, I would be inclined to spend $200-$300 more for a higher quality machine. Also, 16GB RAM is kind of the new minimum, IMO, and while RAM is cheap, I don't want to bother with buying and installing.

Just my 2 cents.

It is worse than that, Dell now uses a custom motherboard as well, so if anything breaks, you really have to go to them for repair / replacement / upgrade.

Dell has also apparently been making it very difficult to avoid getting a service contract on their systems. I was a huge Dell fan and recommended them to my "non tech" friends, but not anymore.

With that said, if you are someone who needs a good office type computer and your plans are to buy new over upgrade in the future, this is a pretty good OK system at a good price. The on board graphics and the small M.2 SSD are a let down.

I'm looking for a new home office desktop. No gaming at all. Office and Quickbooks only.

I've been looking for a month or so here. Not many office desktops being posted. Most are with gaming in mind.

I don't have a problem with the proprietary Dell build. But the price seems maybe only slightly below normal at best.

If it was a $100 less I'd probably jump on this and be done with it. Or am I off base, and this is a good deal? I used to be up on all the specs many years ago, but don't keep up with things PC these days.

How to satisfy the slickdeal mindset within me?

If you re in a city, find a local electronics recycler.

I got a quad core hyperthreaded i5 micro desktop for $75.

Got a $900 ultramicro 6 core hyperthreaded 16gb ram sandwich sized desktop for $125. It was only 2 years old. Put a 1tb ssd in it and gave it to my girlfriend for college -- it's a badass little box, silent, and velcros behind a monitor for a clean look.

TLDR get off lease business pcs locally from a recycler. Best values in tech.

I think you're right. I can price this system for around ~$450 in parts on pcpartspicker. IMHO a real slick deal would be a prebuilt for less than what I can buy parts for. I think we can expect that with Dell or HP kinda vendors based on them running sales and getting good volume prices on parts they use.

This isn't a bad deal but I think we can see better. Kinda depends on how long you can wait out for a bargain, eh?

The HP is a better bargain considering it has a acceptable GPU.

But if you don't need a GPU then the Dell is better.

The Dell has more memory, storage, DVD drive and is cheaper.
Plus Costco warranty is a bonus.
