Fans are always on for mine too. Contacted Lenovo and they said it needed warranty service. They sent it back after replacing the fan (as if that would fix the fan settings). Of course nothing changed but then I noticed electrical noises and power drain even when shut down. So I sent it back in and they said they'd make sure to fix the fan this time. They've held it for weeks now 'waiting on a part'. Already past the deadline and no update from them. It's been almost 2 months since I bought the thing and haven't been able to use it. Had to contact Lenovo 10+ times because they wouldn't send the shipping label or box when they said they would, and several times they said it was already sent but they never really did. Just delay after delay and straight up lies. Nightmare of customer service - and I've been extremely patient with them. I'm definitely never buying Lenovo again

I daily a 'G2' version of this, and the fan was a huge issue until I found a video on youtube where they showed how to enable the 'processor performance boost mode' in the power option of win10. Seems Lenovo has this hidden/disabled, and set at 'Aggressive' so the fans would go max speed whenever the CPU did anything.

Once I made the registry change I changed the setting from aggressive to efficiently enabled, and the fan now only cuts on when I' really pushing the machine.

ThinkBook is NOT ThinkPad range. ThinkPad > ThinkBook > Ideapad.

Great deal, just note, the fans are always on. Mine also made a high pitch noise anytime they ramped up.

I ripped mine out and disabled turbo on my cpu. Battery life is great now and it hardly ever goes above 55C. Performance is still plenty good for my needs.

Oh jeez, hopefully someone else can confirm if the fan noise really requires such drastic measures.
It's pretty loud but beyond that the issue is that drains the battery constantly and shortens the life of the thing. And switching the BIOS power mode doesn't change it at all

Tiger Direct will not allow returns on this (return policy looks sketchy, note the "not all inclusive" before listing manufacturers with no returns, including Lenovo):
https://www.tigerdirect.com/secto...return.asp

I was also able to get price match from Best Buy chat. Thanks OP.

Looks like Tiger Direct is just offloading the "bad" stock with no option to return!

Definitely Lenovo if your eyes are ok with its resolution on a 13". HP's screen is not IPS (which Lenovo has) and is already more expensive with lesser CPU. Plastic (HP) vs aluminum (Lenovo) construction also is not something you want to compare. I am actually surprised Lenovo's thinkbook line can be priced so low. That's idealpad's price range.
MacBook Pros have been using the same resolution on 13.3" screen for a decade now and nobody ever had a problem with it. Just set the scaling correctly. In fact, it is probably already set at 150% by default, so it's not an issue

How do you guys think this compares to this deal:
https://slickdeals.net/f/15760228-hp-pavilion-15z-eh100-laptop-15-fhd-ryzen-5-5500u-8gb-ram-256gb-ssd-480-fs-at-hp?v=1

Its still alive and with student discount, it is only $10 more ($439) for the silver HP (fog blue color made it $10 more)
How you would compare a 15.6" vs 13.3", it changes everything with the size, its not really same comparison.

Thanks for the honest review, at least in that regards HP and Samsung are much better.
I have had a Samsung Chromebook, bought it almost 2 years back, after a year or so one of the USB-C port stop charging. They send me the speed shipping, send it out to them, within a week they fix the issue and send me back.
I also had a HP Chromebook, got an issue with the Wifi connectivity and they asked me to send it overnight to them, after two weeks they said part is not available, then, they gave me two options, one to wait, two full refund, the gave me $100 more with full refund.

I thought that was an obvious difference (it was implied that I wasnt looking for that). Someone else mentioned the IPS screen versus lack thereof and construction (plastic, etc). Those were constructive responses. Your point is well taken that my question was too broad but some people can read between the lines while others are just grumpy.

Lenovo is going to be more premium feeling. It's geared to business so possibly better in the long run
Thinkpads are geared towards business, yes. Thinkbooks are consumer grade, but if deciding between a Thinkbook and an HP, hands down would go with the Thinkbook.
