So you say it's great while everyone else says it's complete, trash. It's Ridgid, so I'll assume the people saying it's trash are correct.
It works fine for my purposes, using it almost every day for the past few months with 100-220 grit Tiger Shark sanding discs.

The only other random orbit sander I've used is a corded Black & Decker that I paid $40 for that suddenly started shredding the discs before I had a chance to do anything with them, so what do I know? Not being sarcastic or anything, I certainly don't do this stuff for a living.

Buy a corded sander and move on with your life. It's a Ridgid tool, can you really trust the reviews from someone who would buy Ridgid?
I already have a couple corded sanders, this thread was for a cordless sander. The position that I should trust a Ridgid tool review from someone who didn't purchase the Ridgid tool is... unique.

If you don't like their tools, cool, there's a color for everyone - but the brand is the first word in the thread title. Cordless sanders just seem like a weird thing to try trolling folks over.

I own probably 20 Ridgid tools and this is the only one to be a disappointment. I've had that same pulling issues and hoped it was just a did that I meant to get around replacing with the SLA but sounds like it's just the design

Or both could be correct. Why assume only the worst?

I bought this sander factory blemished from DTO about 9 months ago. It's my first random orbital sander. I used mostly diablo sandnet disc's with it for sanding wood and, lately, oil polyurethane for a walnut table.

Long story short, this sander has been ok for plywood shop furniture, but I've struggled a lot getting this sander to not leave swirl marks when prep'ing a walnut desk for finish or between coats of poly. I've learned that if I use this sander I absolutely must follow with hand sanding to get the swirls out, which tends to take me hours for my desk.

Also, I find this sander really hard to control right (trying to avoid the swirls!). I have to use 2 hands much of the time...and the effort is always futile it seems. I also wear gloves because the vibrations are pretty bad.

I suspected this wasn't a good sander and have been researching alternatives... the other comments here have convinced me to buy a better ones.

I'll definitely make it a point to try it out early and see how it's acting. I saw the project farm tests last week too (i'd been shopping for a ROS for a bit now) that gave me some pause too. After that review I'd been looking at the Bosch 18V which has stellar reviews, but not seeing it lower than the $129 price point (although that does come with a 4ah battery). I have plenty of Ridgid batteries already, that price difference is pretty substantial.

If it was $90 Ridgid vs. $130 Bosch (with battery) I think I'd go blue - but on this I'm in the Ridgid for like $55 which is an awesome price, hoping Project Farms sample size of 1 comes into play. I see plenty of good reviews on the Ridgid ones too. I definitely appreciate folks input on these here though, and i've seen plenty of cases were the tool is either awesome or trash (based on some defect) and finger crossed that distinction makes itself apparent out of the gate.
Just wanted to say that I wasn't trying to thread crap on your post. I appreciate you posting this deal and if it doesn't work out just return it. Have a great weekend!

Everyone should watch the recent video Project Farm did on cordless sanders! Great content creator and posted that just in time for this deal

This sander definitely is jumpy until you figure out the correct pressure and direction to go in. I previously had a black and decker 20v which was better and easier to use. This sander had been around a long time. Ridgid should have corrected the flaws by now but haven't

"This thing is a great tool but it's a complete piece of shit". Say that out loud and tell me how that sounds. I assume it's a piece of shit because it comes from a low quality brand. No other reason really.

A hammer is great for nails, pretty crappy tool for cleaning windows. Relax, and perhaps think that for the person that liked it, their use case was different and one should further inquire why they think it's good vs outright dismissing their statement.

Why do you keep responding with things that don't make sense. Why would somebody use a hammer to clean a window... This tool serves one purpose and one purpose only and that's sanding. If it's not good at sanding, it's not good at anything.

To someone it was good at sanding. You are dismissing them because some others said it wasn't good. Both opinions could be valid, but you have a bias it seems against this tool brand, which of course leads you to dismiss anything positive said by someone about it(as if it's an impossibility). My point is very clear, that both could be correct. Don't have to be so condescending, especially when you are clearly wrong.

Definitely, and I didn't take offense at all. If the thing is gonna be crap I definitely want it to show signs very early on; much easier to just return it / exchange it to solve the problem. I've made the mistake before on other slick deals were I get the thing (that I didn't absolutely need Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)) and don't use it for a year to find out its junk and I'm well outside any return window - or it starts out great and shoots crap 6 months later (incredibly frustrating).

I know Ridgid miter saws had a batch run on a particular model (R4222 I think?) that had blade wobble defect immediately out the gate causing issues. Folks sometimes had to exchange once or twice to get a *good one*, but once they got one without the defect they've been running like a dream for years.

The grit, speed, pressure, and movement rate all make a huge difference in how a sander feels and performs.

In that video someone posted above, he just taped some weights on top and basically let it go with little control, which is not anything like real world use and even it was, was only with one grit speed pressure rate combination. A real person would adjust to the situation, to the wood, and to the task at hand.

Are you trying to sand out a gouge or prepping for a finish, is the wood pine or ipe, what grit do you need for that, what speed setting should you use, how much pressure should be applied, and how fast are you going to move the sander? None of which was covered in the video.

"Clearly wrong". Tell that to all the people who say it's trash. There is nothing clear about it, at all. Both things can not be correct, that's not how this works. It's either a good tool or it is not, period.
