WD have no warranty. I'd take 1year warranty with Seagate over WD.

Exceptions to the rule do not disapprove the rule like others I stay away from this hard drive and Newegg for sure that messed up with me too many times and had to fight for months to get it right.
Why does a lack of comments bother you?
1. "There are better deals per TB than this!" Yup - there are - but if you're shucking and only have a limited number of bays, or if you're using as-is and you don't really feel like having 20 USB devices and 20 wall warts clogging your power strip, maybe you pay more per TB?
2. "Seagate smash! Seagate bad!" Hi! I'm so sorry we left you behind in 2013. It's 2022 now. Seagate BARRACUDAS were rife with problems, but most of them have been resolved. These drives typically have Ironwolf II or EXOS drives in them which means that they're NAS/Enterprise NAS quality. Plus - they run at 7200RPM while WD externals only typically sport 5400RPM (thinking the elements and mybook drives). You can cry about how Seagate is terrible all you want - more quality drives for those of us who know better!
3. I agree with Newegg criticisms though. They've screwed the pooch in terms of service and speed. Worse - they use FedEx as a primary parcel service. FedEx has proven themselves to be abysmal over the last 5 years.
The warranty on these drives is crap because putting a good drive in an enclosure with virtually no ventilation will slowly kill it. I buy external Seagate drives all the time and shuck them for use in my server. Of course, the warranty is moot because I void it as soon as I open the case. Using it in a properly ventilated enclosure will extend the life of the drive well past the warranty period anyway so it really doesn't matter.
If the shorter warranty bothers you then pay extra for the standalone internal drive. I've used Seagates and WD drives as well as most other brands ever sold for the past few decades and no particular brand I've ever used stands out as being any better than any other for my purposes. I buy whatever is on sale and have never regretted it.
Sometimes you get a drive that fails prematurely. It just happens sometimes. That doesn't mean that particular brand is bad. It just means that one drive was bad. I've probably had more WD drives fail than Seagates over the years so I have no problems buying Seagates. Some people just like to be haters. Seagates get bad raps because of a few bad drives and then everyone just wants to gripe about them. Buy whatever brand floats your boat.
