Bought one in May, just requested a price adjustment and picked up another one for upstairs. Just moved to Portland with no AC in the house. Just incase there's another heat wave in 2022.

Has anyone heard of using this with central air? I have big south-facing windows in our kitchen/living room area, so during the summer, the lowest it ever gets is 75, and it's running nonstop to keep it there, even with keeping our shutters closed. I want it at 72 and am desperate at this point. I've had a HVAC tech look at our system and they've said it's working normally, so I don't know what else to do.
You need to look at dampeners in the ducting and seeing if your AC is sized right. Central AC is ALWAYS going to be more efficient. Look at closing off some of the colder rooms vents. Also Insulated drapes will do WONDERS. I have west facing windows and the drapes make a world of difference in the afternoons.

I bought a Midea U-shaped window unit at Costco last summer and love it. Quietest window unit I've ever had. I don't think I'd ever go back to a traditional one by choice.
How much was the U shaped?

U shape is probably better. Seals much better than the traditional window AC.

Ordered one few days ago for the living room, time for price adjustment. I want to get newer one for bedrooms, wonder if this size is too big or overkill? Current one is 6k btu for bedrooms

Does anyone have tips or suggestions on installing this in a window that slides side by side?
I use wall insulation board which is solid but easily cut to size to fill gaps keep out bugs and hold the foam in place with tyvek tape on the inside for clean looking install .
Of course you have to support the a/c in the window too...

Any adapter for installing in a vinyl window that doesn't have the old flat wood board for the bottom of the window sill.

I still have the LG one slated for delivery tomorrow... Wondering if I should return it and get another one of these....
Yeah, I ordered the LG unit with a dual inverter. I'm wondering if I should opt for this one instead, but returning the LG would be a hassle (though I haven't installed it yet).

I contacted support to clarify the heating function on this model is via resistive heating, NOT via a heat pump unfortunately

WOW. i have had 2 older crappy (but working) AC's for like 5 years. In this era of inflation with the cost of everything going through the roof i just got that LG 9.5K BTU AC for $289 that's being delivered tomorrow AND just ordered this 12K BTU for $296. AND they're both inverter units! i can't believe it.
Is the LG one you got the one with dual inverters? Either way, if it has an inverter, I would greatly appreciate knowing where you purchased it for that price. I paid $400 for the dual inverter one. It seemed to be cheaper than it had been in the past. I just wasn't sure if the price would go up as it got closer to summer. Anyway, thanks for relating your experience.
