Does anyone know how this Midea compares to the Frigidaire Inverter Quiet Temp Smart Room 12,000 BTU that looks almost identical?

I'm not sure if I should get this AC or not since it may be too oversized for my 150sqft room. I would like to get the 8000 btu midea u inverter, but it's $460 and $170 more expensive than this. I'm trying to get an inverter AC that's energy efficient and quiet.

I bought a Midea U-shaped window unit at Costco last summer and love it. Quietest window unit I've ever had. I don't think I'd ever go back to a traditional one by choice.
I could not agree more, love my U shape only complaint the brightness of the LEDs for a bedroom at night

I have both and the U shape requires drilling and assembling the frame. Not a fan of this MacGyiver setup.
You don't have to drill. It's still significantly harder to fall out. The frame can be inset on the inside of the window frame.

What's the heating efficiency? HSPF?

They claim it is also a heater but only list SEER.

Beware, midea window a/c units dont have any filters to block bugs from coming in. They go right into the vent slats and crawl through the inside of the unit and exit where the A/C blows. Last summer i was killing about 10-20 stink bugs PER DAY, PER ROOM for every midea ac unit i have. Trust me find a better brand.

I had 2 window units before (LG and Panasonic) and eneded up getting rid of both and buying 3x U-Shapes. It's an excellent setup now. They're quiet, efficient, highly effective, app controlled. They can cool my 800 sqft upper floor very comfortably, and downstairs stays comfortable as well without additional cooling.

There is a bit of a high pitched whine for a few seconds when the compressor turns on, but it goes away pretty quick. With the window closed and the insulation installed properly, the compressor noise stays outside, thats the whole point of the U shape. I would not consider a standard window mount at this point. If U shape doesn't work for you then spring for a minisplit.

Isn't there a way to rig a screen somehow to the outside to prevent this? I have portable units that allow bugs to come through the tubing exhaust but they almost always get stuck there. I just use a stick vacuum to suck up their carcasses when I hear them rustling around.

what does "inverter technology" mean?
Do they take AC input, convert to DC, then back to AC?

I cool my 900sq ft house with one and a box fan, so yes. It is way over sized for your room.

It allows for a variable amount of cooling power rather than just on or off. It results in lower energy usage and it is more efficient and quieter.

No, not on these units. I have 4 midea window ac (didjt realize the design flaw when i bought them). So i just bought screen mesh and am going to disassemble all of them and attempt to fix this by blocking all the openings internally. No other ac unit ive had had this issue. Imo i would just recommend people avoid thus brand entirely or else you'll prob have to deal with the same kind of problems.
