Like the Chinese versions, HF, etc., I think Griot's still gives you an extra set of brushes. A 14% discount is better than nothing, but for an out of date brushed motor, one might expect the price to come down on this model to around a $100 to be considered a slickdeal.
While I am wishing, can we add the Makita optional function of a forced rotation or not in the same buffer/polisher? And contrary to being an improvement, put the damn cord back on it. You need the cord to use it. Milwaukee tried that for awhile and too soon, the proprietary cord would not stay attached as another back end sell at a premium plus shipping.
A reasonable price, but the battery operated brushless are increasingly kicking butt and making this version either obsolete, or a lot cheaper. Soon, someone will come out with a hybrid version of battery or cord, but hope the cord connection is secure.
This is a fantastic polisher for the beginning/intermediate user. Great price too. And Griot's stands behind this thing for life. When my older model took a dump, after many, many years of use, they sent me this model to replace it, all I paid was return postage (about 9 bucks at the time).
I can't explain the extreme ease with which you can take care of your vehicle's paint using this polisher.
Sure, there's better, much more expensive units out there. But for $145, this is a no-brainer. Great deal.

That 'JACOBS' coupon works for most everything, but I think ends today. If one just has to have this G9, there are some package deals that make for a better deal.
And since the machine is a bit under powered for the 6" that it comes with, most will eventually want the also vented 5" conversion with pads that the coupon also works for.
An economical machine that is coming up the ranks is the HF Bauer brand... especially the one with the 20mm throw. Not yet quite perfected, it is showing up in shops everywhere and can be had for around $90 on a sale.

Long throw for that price is pretty good, and the longer cord is certainly appreciated.
But the cons versus the Griot's in the OP far outweigh the pros.
Bauer's 90-day limited warranty, lower power, lower RPM's at top speed, and less options for backing pad sizes gives the Griot's a significant value differential from HF's brand. And the HF near me is a PIA to do returns. YMMV there.
With the discount, I'm real tempted to grab the 3" for tighter spaces.

Oh yea, with HF, you want to buy the extended warranty if it matters. What that extended warranty gives you is an exchange for new that is so much better than sending off to a repair station that sometimes can take months.
For paint correction, that Bauer 20mm throw is nice. Still a bit clunky, it would probably last the average homeowner a long time. A local shop has been using one everyday for about 3 months and the bearings are getting a bit noisy and time for an exchange. I could be wrong, but I think the Bauer plates are interchangeable with Griot's and others. I am not trying to sell the Bauer, but rather a viable option for the occasional user.
Me, I really dislike that disconnect cord on the Griot as an update. But, they do sell a 25ft that the discount also works for that is not terribly priced.
Not sure where free shipping kicks in, but one does not have to add much to meet the minimum.

Never had a problem with the disconnecting cord on my Griot's unit. But I have 12g extensions to beat the band.
As for purchasing an extended warranty...that just seems to add to the cost (unsure how much). With Griot's warranty, the turnaround was a couple of weeks in 2019. My polisher sees almost monthly use between two cars (parked outdoors, so they need all the protection they can get).
I can't imagine having to go every six months or so and have the damn thing swapped out. My experience with HF hand tools (torque wrench) was..... Less than stellar. Don't know if I can, in good conscience, recommend those tools to anyone.

Two cars a month and the Bauer will last you a lifetime... lol ... These guys are running all day, every day. The HF warranty is cheap and you get a brand new one to start over again.
A person likes what they like that is typically what has worked for them. I have this Griot and a few others from over the years. Mostly, I grab the Porter-Cable for polishing, but for any paint correction and I don't want to be there all day, I am using a circular, or a long throw forced oscillating and if from the elements, after the clay bar. As a hobby, I do some body work, old tractors, etc. and not a professional detailer that all seem to have their own variants of what they like or don't like.
Did you grab the 3", or find a better deal elsewhere?
