If you have a living area above the garage, belt is recommended. But chain is more reliable in the long run. I personally prefer the belt for the low noise.

Got a similar model/deal at home depot for $100 clearance. I used home depot to refer me to a install technician, was only about 80ish to have it installed. Works great. Camera is a little slow or nonresponsive, but that's ok. I didn't opt in to their video hosting cloud service. Mine didn't include battery backup, that would be a nice feature and worth the extra dollars for.

Older chamberlain garage door opener was chain. Could feel floor rumbling / super loud above garage…now more quieter, no rumbling.

Have you ever had a belt snap?

I've had two belt openers, and not one has snapped. THe new belt drives are steel reinforced, Chamberlin offers lifetime warranty on the belt.

Just as an extra tip, if you want to maximize the sound reduction, also replace steel door rollers with nylon rollers. I was amazed at how loud the steel rollers were once I switched to a belt drive and could hear them.

good to know about the lifetime. I have two belt openers too and i'd figure if a car can last 100K+ miles on before a serpentine belt needs change

Even though it's rarely accurate, is there a "brickseek" for Costco? There is a couple in my area, but nothing close.

So if you call would they know for sure? One person said it was deleted from the system and won't be getting anymore. Are there any chances they would be sitting out on clearance?
I've called a few times for items - in fact neighboring costcos will be able to look at each others' stock as well. I don't know I've ever seen a "clearance" section at a Costco though.

EDIT - just called my more convenient Costco and they said they had 8 on hand @ $129.97.

Pretty sure all of the stores here sold out of these a month or two ago at the $250 price. Great deal if you can find them though!

You must have had a very quiet chain drive then. My belt drive is extremely quiet. About 1/3 the Boise of the chain drive.

I would buy, but my next one will probably be the wall mount style (direct drive?)
This ^^^ I saw it at one of my friend's new house.

Wish I had known this before installing a chain drive due to worrying about longevity of belt drive. My bedroom is right above the garage and it is loud.
