I bought this ~2 months ago when it was on SlickDeals. The pen is trash compared to a Surface Pro, my Galaxy Tab S8, or my ancient iPad Pro 9.7". When simply trying to sign my signature on a blank page for instance, it's skips a lot so my nice signature looks all janky; so I can't imagine how anyone could use this for creative arts (if that's one of your use-case). But not a deal breaker for me because I don't do sketches and such and rarely ever use the pen on my Galaxy Tab S8 or iPad. I really love the magnesium build - when I touch it and feel how light it is, it instantly reminds me of my Thinkpad X1 Carbon that I had back in 2014. The facial recognition also works extremely well - even at weird angles and lighting, it somehow always recognizes my face (even better than my Galaxy S22). The keyboard also feels sublime - it's insane how nice it feels; even nicer than my Thinkpad X1 Carbon full-fledged laptop from 2014.

Surface *Pro 8, right?
Two very nice and capable machines to be compared.

To keep it simple and precise:

Performance and screen wise the SP8 dominates; brighter (not significantly), better color gamut coverage, sharper, and esp the 120Hz refresh rate. The only thing lacking is the contrast which is better on the X12, blacks appear deeper on the latter. The SP8 also uses PWM although it's at a much higher frequency than its predecessor, but it's still something to consider if you have very sensitive eyes; the X12 doesn't use PWM
SP8 is lighter than X12
Battery, despite being larger than the X12, shows lesser runtimes than the X12, not by a large margin but still noticeable
The SP8 runs hotter and louder than the X12
It's much easier to replace the SSD on the SP8 than the X12
Pen input, although being great on both, is much better and more "realistic" on the Surface 8. So that's something to consider if you're someone who regularly draws or does graphic work, esp for a living. Apple pen is better than both (just for comparison)
Speakers are much much better on the SP8
You get a much cleaner and "vanilla" Microsoft Windows with the SP8

All this comes down to the pricing, however. The aforementioned things, IMO, don't justify paying double the price of X12 for. But then again, it also comes down to your usage. The SP8 is a better workhorse.

I think I said last time this came up, that I like the idea of a Windows tablet, but it has poor practicality vs. a standard ultrabook.

agree. the lack of ports on these computers has wanting more for a quick grab and go computer. don't feel like dragging a docking station everywhere (no where actually).

I ordered one of these at thanksgiving then gave up when it didn't ship after 3 months.
Picked up a 10th gen Dell used instead.

You can do the SSD, but it's a 2230. Biggest is currently 1 TB (though 2 TB has been announced. 1 TB 2230 is $$$. Only reasonable price I found was on EBay. Picked one up, put it in the Dell and it's working fine.

Looks doable on the Lenovo, but it seems to be under a heat sink (or pipe). So plan on removing, cleaning and new thermal paste (I can't say for sure since I didn't to it myself).

Windows Tablet & Android Tablet is very niche market. Unless you have very specific need.

This is good price for the spec regardless. If you want something portable, this is pretty good.
