Had these for about 2.5 years. Threw them out after random disconnects, first it was once a month, weekly, and finally multiple times a week. Once it was going down so much, I threw them out. And yes I did update the firmware to keep them current.

Great system! Have been using it for about five years now and never had an issue. Highly recommended.

How do you update the firmware? I use the app, but I don't believe I have ever been prompted to update the firmware.

Orbi has firmware auto update on by default(can't be turn off) which is why @rinque85 experienced random disconnects since some firmwares are buggy. It is recommended to completely reset the system after each firmware update.

By "reset the system" you mean pushing the button on the satellite that hooks into the router? or should I unplug all of the satellites? TIA!

Have had these for about 3 years now, only reset the system fully once, after the 2nd router disconnected and would not connect back. Besides that glitch about a year ago they been pretty solid and no I have not been resetting the system after firmware updates.

For this price though the Triband Velop deal thats trending right now is probably a better pickup.

I used the web gui to do the updates. Download the latest version from Netgear's website and uploaded via the web gui.
Had a bad experience trying to update one of the satellite via the app. Since then I stuck to web gui.

I've had an older orbi system ( 2 satellite) for 4 years with 0 issues. Get max speeds in 4500 sq ft house.

You cannot w/o some modding. Instruction can be found via google.

I have 1 router and 4 satellites. These are great except when theres power outage, itll take my system almost a full day for everything to get back to normal.

These are getting a bit long in the tooth now compared to the newer sets of mesh network sets, but that's priced in at this price. I've been running them for about 3 years now with minimal issues. My house is spread very horizontal (tri-level) so these do the trick to get me coverage inside and outside. I've been thrilled with these for a while as someone who cut the cord but has 7 TVs w/ steaming devices + multiple mobile devices and gaming PCs.

Pros:
-coverage
-consistency
-app/interface

Middle of the road:
-Speed compared to low and mid range, but not elite compared to high end now (not that your ISP is gonna push it anyway, ha).

Cons:
-They can be a little annoying to troubleshoot if you get a disconnect issue. (This tends to be few and far between though, haven't had an issue in 1.5 years+)
- I never remember what the colors mean.

If it were me, I'd be looking for something that is Wifi 6 from a future-proof perspective if I was buying now (though I can't comment on TP Link reliability/issues).
