Admittedly I am slightly tempted to give it another try since I like the idea of an electric razor, but I had a mediocre experience last time I tried a Series 9. IMHO a regular razor provides a better, more reliable shave that's probably better for the skin with shaving cream and after-shave. YMMV for all different hair and skin types.
Braun also introduced a Series 9 Pro with minimal improvements, so this may be an outgoing model.

A razor like this is definitely ideal for someone that depends on having a close shave every day.
FYI - you do have to get in the razor head every once in a while with the brush they provide. The cleaning base does a fine if not noisy job at sanitizing the razor.
I've been thinking about trying either this or the Braun Series 9 Pro for around $100 more. The difference in shaving quality seems to be minimal but it could be enough to make the difference for me where it didn't work before. My facial hair grows in different directions so it can be a challenge for an electric razor, and I also have particularly sensitive skin. I've tried so many different types of razors and they all have their pros and cons.

I'm thinking about spending the extra money for a Series 9 Pro since I've tried the standard Series 9 three years ago and it didn't pass as usable long-term, which would have thrilled me since I've tried a lot of razors throughout the years. If the Series 9 Sport is working well for you then I wouldn't even worry about the minimal improvements in the new generation. I've also heard this may be $149.99 in-store at Costco, which is a fantastic price. I wonder if the new Pro heads are interchangeable. Then again I also may just stick to my single-edge razors, which provide the best shave with the lowest level of irritation. Electric razors intrigue me since I like the idea of them, and Braun has an excellent design philosophy. Even the old Series 3 looks phenomenal, and the Series 9 Sport and Pro look so futuristic and sleek it almost justifies the price alone. I'd just hope for an irritation-free shave that's as consistent as possible, but I think they are creating the best foil razors on the market. It all comes down to individual needs.

It seems to be both more gentle and efficient, providing perhaps not quite as close of a shave in favor of preventing irritation which is my preference. I may have to give serious consideration to keeping this alongside my single-edge razors.
I initiated a return after my first use since I expected it to be like the other Braun razors I've had where I could hypothetically use it all summer and not have my skin adjust, but the Pro does seem to do just enough different to be more usable. The first shave admittedly ruined my day, but that was also with a week of hair growth. This razor still shines with 1-3 days of stubble. I'm also using a more proper shaving routine, opening and closing pores with hot/cold water to mitigate irritation, which has made a difference. I could try wet shaving as well since the razor responds surprisingly well to a good shaving cream, it just slightly makes the concept of an electric razor less necessary.
So yes, Braun is capable of making high-quality razors that can work for just about anyone with the proper routine and technique. I'd also suggest either going for the Series 3 as a starter razor or Series 9 for the best shave possible, as the difference in performance is likely to be worthwhile compared to Braun's mid-tier razors.

The Braun is no good for a weeks worth of growth, 1 to 3 days would be more like it. The Norelco can cut though a weeks worth of growth with no problem but it does not cut as close as the others.

I tested a full shave with a high-quality shaving cream and it made the shave more comfortable but it didn't feel natural since I like to shave with and against the grain simultaneously.
Series 9 Pro has made quite the difference, although I've also incorporated a much better and more comprehensive shaving routine. It might have one additional shaving element, and it seems gentler overall.
