Not sure why Knipex has not kept up, but the compound (double x, dual x, dual pivot, etc.) are so much easier to use. I would rather have a compound Knipex if made in Germany, but you can't have what they don't make/sell.
Gearwrench [amazon.com] and others like Sunex and Crescent have been hard at it with a variety of heads/tips. Even Harbor Freight [harborfreight.com] has them. What Knipex does have is a unique head/jaw configuration for grasping different things. I cannot remember the last time I actually reached for these Knipex over the various compound Gearwrench versions purchased, but they look pretty... lol
