These are service and repair manuals. Not the operator manual. Or the owners manual as you called it. The owners manual is accessible through the in car touch screen or via your Tesla account, which is required to order a vehicle. These are at no cost.

Just like BMW "lifetime" manual transmission oil. Except the car drives totally different (in a good way) when you change it.

Either that or it's just planned obsolescence.
Yep just ask Scotty Kilmer

Good to know. One of the main reasons stopping me from buying one. Right to repair is important and if I can't buy parts and service the car on my own or through an independent, that's a deal breaker. I never take my car to the dealer for service because it's usually very costly.
Tesla is similar to Apple (not the kind you eat) when they resisted selling individual parts for self repair but now Apple actually has a self repair program where anyone can buy parts for newer devices (older ones too later on). Hopefully we will have something like that soon for Tesla owners soon. 🤞

What can the average person do to a Tesla maintenance wise?

Besides cabin filter and washing it.

Edited.

There's nothing else to do, other than change the brake fluid every few years like any other car (and you can easily do that yourself).

EVs have vastly fewer moving parts, and vastly less routine maintenance, required.

The whole "you can't do any work at all and nobody sells parts" bit is kinda weird too.... like, the suspension, brakes and wheels and tires are all the same as any other car, anybody can work on em (though thanks to regen braking it'll be far far less often that you need to change pads or touch the rotors)....

And there's plenty of aftermarket options for all those parts if you don't want parts from Tesla.

I mean, there's no aftermarket parts to replace the self-driving computer or electric motors I guess so you'd need to get those from Tesla....but non-OEM parts aren't common for those kinds of parts on other brands either.

Not to start a debate, you could say the same about ICE cars. Regardless if safety is the concern, I have a great network of independent mechanics who are more than qualified too, but even they can't work on the Tesla. That's why I went with a Chevy Bolt instead, at least they make parts available. Of course not as fancy but I voted with my wallet.
Hear they are resuming production on the Chevy Bolt due to the fire issue on the battery?

Hyundai and Kias are notoriously unreliable with comical engine issues they should come with service manuals for free. I wish they were better made since they are starting to look nice but essentially and poorly made.
But they do have a 10 year warranty I believe lol

Yes they replaced batteries in all the earlier cars and I believe they started production again. Considering how much they cost second hand, it's a great value. And the new batteries makes it effectively brand new

No cc was given for me.

But it uses your global Tesla account which has a CC already saved in it (for Supercharging, etc)

So you did not have to pay anything for the battery swap? Hopefully its a diff manufacturer?

Ignorance is bliss. Kia has some problematic models, just like any other brand, but they are not poorly made nor are they notoriously unreliable. Since this is a Tesla thread I think it is fair to mention that Hyundai and Kia always rank much higher than Tesla in any reliability rating study. So stop the ignorance and learn the facts.

No payment, everything covered. I think it's the same manufacturer LG. Honestly I think it's all overblown, but I'm not complaining about the new battery. I believe about 20 cars caught fire out of 150k cars. But I digress, off topic for this thread

LOL I'm guessing you drive a Model 3 like most every other Tesla owner. They aren't expensive. They are pretty much the average price of any new car. In fact, pickup trucks which are the best selling vehicles in the US, are typically much more expensive. I love the false snobbiness of Tesla owners. It's hilarious.
With the exception of the new Ford Lightning. Base as its $42k if you can preorder that but seems closed now. But still how can Ford make it so cheap? Same for the hybrid Maverick?
