The YU's are also on sale for 229 on Amazon they are the same as these except they don't have optical or USB input so if you are ok with just RCA and Bluetooth then you can save an extra $70.

I was contemplating these but I wanted speakers mainly for my computer so I went with the much smaller form factor Vanatoo Transparent Zero. They had a 15% off coupon yesterday.

Adding a digital to analog converter internally is probably less than $10 and you can have one cable for PD and signal. I guess this market is too small for innovation.
You would need two digital analog converters and two amplifiers. There's no need for that much complexity in the system. No powered desktop monitor that I know of at this price point and this use case (I am not speaking about actual studio monitors) have both as an active speaker. They are always integrated as one active and one passive.

What kind of subwoofer can you pair with this? Any recommendations?
I recently looked into this question and researched for a week. My findings:

<$100, look for used subs like velodynes, because older high end subwoofers still sound great today. Search "Subwoofer" on your local classified (Craigslist, FB marketplace, etc.), sort by cheapest, and then start googling "model name + review/forums/Reddit." After doing research, choose your favourite!

Above $100, look at Dayton Sub 1200, BIC F12. DO NOT buy the Polk Audio PSW10.

~$500 you start getting into the true subwoofers that have flat extension to 20Hz or lower. SVS, Hsu, REL, etc.

I got the same. From days of research, Venatoo T0 is the one.

But how will they change the volume?!
These speakers come with a remote so you would just use that. If you have another remote with a learning function, you could use that as well. I do this with my Apple TV remote, for instance.

That's fair point but I'm stuck between traditional options like this that adds a lot of cable mess and the cheap $20 Bluetooth speakers. Anything good in the middle?

I definitely wish these had any kind of usb-in for computer usage, so I'd get a good DAC for the price.

But running a USB line between the left and right?.. Good DACs (which I assume these have) are more than $10, and also speaker wire is also one cable which does signal and power, and assures they are perfectly matched, and can be cut to any length, and also why?? I think you're the only one who wants this.
Daisy chain left and right with single cable - anyone? Just me? Smilie

Same thing I did. I knew little to nothing about computer/gaming speakers these days and all the reviews pointed me to the Vanatoo T0's.

I get what you're saying. Power and signal is definitely doable through USB-C, but there are a few of us who would rather not have USB DAC given the fact that many of our systems are not clean at all and draw dirty power through the USB port into the DAC (such as GPU heavy gaming systems). In that case it's preferable to have an optical input, otherwise you're spending a couple hundred bucks on a galvanically isolated external USB DAC.

Still going to need a standard 16 AWG cable to connect the active to the passive one. Unless you really want to spend more for double the equipment.

Would I be able to hook these up with a subwoofer to my Amazon Echo Dot. I have a soundbar hooked up to it right now and I'm thinking the sound would be better with these.

Awesome. Exactly what I wanted to hear. Thank you
These are higher quality. But they aren't are room filling sound wise. So dialog is good here, action is weak. Many of the sound bars have wireless surround and a sub - this won't compare well.
