To all the people that thumbed down my last comment, I hope this cheers you up. Since they wouldn't let me return an item without membership, I then would buy a membership, do the return, and then cancel my membership when I left the country for 6 months. I was abiding by their rules. got to return the item, and got my money back for the membership i wasnt using. 😁
I have both. I dont think costco is better always. There are things those r plus for sams. their price is better. And i love their new scan n go app feature, and being able to use any credit card..costco has nothing similar to scan n go..

So when you have an executive membership, you get 2% cash back rewards when you make purchase at costco warehouse or online. They normally mail you that a month before your membership expires. If you redeem the rewards check and try to cancel membership for a refund or downgrade then they will subtract the rewards check from the $120 membership cost.
If you have a Citi Costco visa credit card, you get cash back rewards check from Citi bank that have to be redeem at costco. They mail that out in Feb. for everyone.
Edit: if you don't renew your membership, you are still owed your 2% cash back.
If you don't renew your membership, Costco will send Citi a notification to cancel your credit card because you must have a membership to have that credit card. Once that card is cancel then you lose any rewards accumulated before you get the check.

People here mention that Costco gives them the runaround and not care when they try to complain about the offer. But I think the one who is to go after is Groupon. They are issuing the gift card and coupon through email, so it has to be Groupon that is sending that. They verify your membership with Costco and then they send the coupon and digital card.

I suppose I could always use the account a few months, and then cancel if I don't see the $80.

Costco needs a week or so, to completely setup your online account.
I would encourage adding it to your calendar to check after 2 weeks and then take the call.

Yes, I already got 1 check, accumulated another 45 from recent purchases. Have this account from couple of years. I only have executive membership, do not have Costco citi credit card.
Do not want to cancel my membership, I will let it expire in June.
