Going cheap on painting is a TERRIBLE life lesson you must learn to believe. You will create nothing but more work and waste more of your time by trying to cut corners when it comes to painting. Unless of course you just do shoddy work to begin with. This is a hard pass. I mean I guess for niche work like painting something small that you really don't care about? Even then I'd rather use a nice brush and do it right.

I guess it really depends on the situation. If you're priming a new home or room, probably OK, or if you don't care so much about the quality (rental?)

I am going to stain a fence out in the back forty. Why would this be worse than a brush?
