Camp Chef > Traeger

However, please note this model does NOT have the wifi PID, just the regular digital PID. Deal breaker for me to upgrade my old PG24DLX.

I have the previous generation of this grill... the assembly is no big deal... mostly attaching the legs and handles... the main unit is already pre-assembled...

Camp chef vs z grills?

How does it compare to this one?
I'm new to pellet grills...

Edited...I see the zgrill doesn't have a digital controller (PID) with probes so that's probably the big difference here

I bought this same model from Lowes for $360 a couple years ago. I was never a pellet guy. I always smoked with wood and charcoal. I used it once, and ran back and got a 2nd one. They're so easy to use, and take no time at all. It has everything you need on it. The front shelf is a great addition. The easy ash cleanout is great as well. Don't worry about the wi/fi or bluetooth thermometer. You can get them dirt cheap online and use them anywhere you want. (Up north, in the oven, other grills, etc) The only hiccup I had with it, was one of the units was missing a bolt to attach a leg. I contacted customer service and they were fantastic! Camp Chef in my opinion, is the way to go for a pellet grill! Especially at this price!

I use one of my pellet grills up north, no wifi up there. I would suggest getting this, for the price, and buying a wifi/bluetooth thermometer online. That's what I did, I use it not only with this, but in the oven, other grills, etc. To me, that's the way to go.

diniba, my opinion is that you can't go wrong with this pellet grill. See my post below. I bought 2 of them. Love them! And Camp Chef customer service was top notch. I don't know anything about z grills, but this one is great for the price!

Camp Chef > Z Grills.... that is the general consensus online. I own a Grilla so can't speak to this specifically.

Silly ? - I have smoked for a long time using a cheap wireless meat probe. I recently purchased a Camp Chef to try pellet grilling and friends are saying I need a wifi controller.

My pellet grill noob question is why? The digital controller will hold the temp I set it too so it seems like a waste of money. What am I missing?

I can only guess that these people who leave their home cooking something. Then if something reaches temperature you can turn it down remotely. For example, your fast smoking a brisket at 325, it reaches temp (or close to temp) you turn it down to 180.

Me personally, I won't leave something on the smoker unless someone is home. I've had numerous instances of flare ups and temp sky rocketing. In these instances, the meat had to removed. Turning down still wouldn't be the solution.

Wasn't a joke, trying to find if my portable power supply has enough juice for a camping trip.
