How does this compare to the Surface Pro 7 with 8gb RAM/128gb SSD/i5?

Different use cases, but I like the Surface Pro the best. Same speed, if you get the SP7+ the SSD is easier to replace.

Interesting, because my desktop had 32 GB of RAM and it came to a screeching halt with a few Chrome tabs open. That's why it now has 64. Haven't had that problem again. Not yet, anyway.
You would think that you would have learned something and stopped using Chrome. But I guess not.

I'm not seeing any reference to a brand new battery. In two places, it mentions "minimum 90% battery health" and in another place it mentions "Minimum 80% battery life"
Under the about this item section

"BRAND NEW BATTERY: this product exceeds the Renewed Premium 90% battery capacity promise, and comes with a brand new battery."

Most browsers are built on Chrome, and can use the same extensions. If you switch to another browser with the same engine, you'll likely have the same experience. Chrome absolutely does not handle it well if you have dozens of tabs open.

The new Edge is built on Chrome and uses memory WAY BETTER than Chrome does.

Some people seem to be expecting quite a bit out of a $500 laptop. This is first and foremost a casual, everyday, premium laptop, not a powerful workhorse. You're paying for what you see and feel, not for heavy performance. Yeah 16gb would be nice, but if this is an everyday laptop, you really shouldn't need more. Windows will dynamically manage memory accordingly with page files using the SSD, so don't assume that it will come to a screeching halt once you have a few chrome tabs open.
I have 425 tabs open on 8gb.
(And never less than 300)
While running YouTube and Lightroom.
8gb RAM
5 year old fanless design.
Using Chrome.
No real issues.

Most folks don't need 16. Though since I don't have the ability to test 16 in mine I can't say if it would feel and be faster.

It is. Just not for the chronic abusers
