What the heck! I just bought the 12-gallon for $58. I'll probably return it and get this one!

I bought one of this for flipping a house during the pandemic. I did a lot of drywall work for the house and used this together with a drywall sander. It works reasonably well. I like the long cord and the flat top for tools. But by the end the suction was noticably weaker, even with a new bag and clean filter. I gave it away after the project. I think I got my money's worth.

Is absolute nonsense. In comparison, thinking $65.76 for the OP should be the list price.

douglascm's link [youtube.com] is spot on. But, Project Farm's older test [youtube.com] that did not include the OP was interesting.
question is if they used the noise diffuser...apparently removing it significantly improves suction at the cost of being louder.

How does this compare to the other Vacmaster Beast (12 gallon) deal on the front page? It seems like higher capacity and 6.5 HP vs 5.5 HP for only $7 more is a no brainer, what am I missing? Do people just prefer the smaller size of the 12 gallon?

I ended up buying the other 12 gal 5.5HP Vacmaster. True it has less CFM and suction than this 16 gal and probably Ridgid / Craftsman, it is likely sufficient for average homeowners, and smaller size is more convenient.
12 gal is 143cfm while this is 150 so about 5% more which is not much. that said, the 12gal model is only 15 lbs while 16 gal is almost 30 lbs. not sure why there is such weight difference.

I couldn't believe that either. So I went to vacmaster site. The 12 gal is 20.x lbs and the 16 gal is 24.x lbs.

Just get a Ridgid 12 gallon or larger. Better specs, better hose and attachments, lifetime warranty.

Craftsman sold one that we purchased and logically, anytime you restrict the outflow, that reduces the inflow. How much? The lower suction versions seem to suffer the most... whereas I did not notice much difference in suction, but it is a little more quiet.

What worked better for noise, is when I attached a hose to the outflow and exhausted outside through an open window that did cut down the noise a lot... with a lot less dust in the room.

You're better off just buying the Rigid Pro Pack for $99. I'm a contractor and have had mine for about 6 years, and it's half the size and weight, and works 10x better, also lifetime warranty

FWIW, this seems like a replica of the Craftsman XSP version.

Curious if it's simply rebranded.

I just received this today. It includes a sound dampener to put on the exhaust to make it quieter. The foam is so think, it's the equivalent of jamming a wad of paper towel in the hole. Removing it increase the suction substantially. Like 2x-3x more. If you're worried about this thing being wimpy, don't be. This thing will gobble up golf balls no problem.

Received mine today. 100% identical to the Craftsman you linked besides the plastic colors and the Vacmaster has a 5 year warranty and the Craftsman has a 3 year warranty. They are both coming off the same Chinese assembly line with the exact same motors, hoses, attachments, everything. This is definitely a good deal.

I'll also note that the poorly done YouTube review/comparison video that has been posted multiple times. Although it's not the same model craftsman as linked above, he does all the tests with the noise muffler attached to Vacmaster and no noise muffler attached to the Craftsman. There is a muffler available for the Craftsman and guess what? Exact same part number as are all of the attachments. They all have part numbers on them, all the same part numbers as the Craftsman. They're the same vacuums. If you prefer red and black over yellow and black I suppose that's the only benefit. I don't think it's worth more than double the price though. The 2 year longer warranty on the Vacmaster is a nice bonus as well.
