one thing i don't like about my Octane saw is the shoe can flex... i don't use it for any precision cuts, but still, it can be annoying.


FWIW...
if you'd like the latest saw, more powerful saw, you can get it for ~105$ right now.
the R8657 can be added as a "free" tool right now.

Smoke and mirrors? It's interesting that they claim the new saw is 35% more powerful than the 7 year old brushed GenX5 saw, but make no mention of any power improvement over the Octane. Ridgid claims the Octane saw is 30% more powerful than the same GenX5. So looks like the new saw is about 5% more powerful than the Octane, although somewhat strangely the new saw has lower RPM's than the Octane at 5400 vs 5600. . A couple reviewers on the HD website say they have both the Octane and the R8657 and claim there is no power difference. I have the Octane and don't notice any shoe flex.

Do not order it for 99 bucks, go to different stores and its within their clearance isle. Picked up mine in NYC this weekend.

Do the tool hack with their ($249) drill combo w/free gift. Choose the new released circular saw at ($179) and the price comes down to ($104). Just return the combo kit in store. Basically paying the same price as this but with the new upgrades!
