These things have been out of stock most of the time at my local store. I think they got one pallet worth last month and I snoozed and missed out.

I got one of these for like $80 in store a few years ago, The batteries on it seem to have gone bad though, does anyone have any recommendations for replacement batteries or is it just easier/cheaper to get a whole new unit?

If anyone is looking to use this to keep their modem and router on during a power outage, I suggest looking at a power inverter that takes tool batteries.

I use a Ryobi inverter and have multiple batteries. Right now Ryobi days has the 150w inverter with two 4ah batteries for $100. This won't work if you need always on internet, but for most, 5 minutes offline is not a big deal for YouTube etc. Doing it this way will also save you money because these UPS units are constantly charging and discharging, even if they have a super fast switch over instead of powering your devices off the battery all the time to achieve the always on feature.

I stopped using a UPS for my internet equipment when the battery died. While waiting for a deal on a replacement I noticed I saved like $5-10 a month on my electric bill. Technically I can use my savings to buy a tool + two 4ah batteries every year for free. With prices rising I save even more.

Yeah I look at this as for something' like a work PC that allows u to quickly save your work when/if the power goes out. I have a smaller similar unit and saved my ass a couple times when the power went out and gave me a couple minutes to save my work before my machine turned off. Otherwise as a tiny genny I would agree that a different /cheaper unit may be better suited just depends on your needs

I have a cyberpower similar to this model and when there is a brownout sometimes my equipment loses power. I have never had that problem with a UPS branded unit. I have noticed this issue with two different cyberpower units (one with Pure SineWave and one without)

I was going to say no, but after finding this CyberPower Sump Pump backup, it might if you knew the exact startup wattage of your sump pump. My quick research says it would need to be the weakest pump out there, as 1/3rd hp pumps need over 1k watts to start.

https://www.acehardware.com/depar...ts/4003789

I'd suggest researching other solutions though. The one in the link is slightly bigger than this, and claims 120 minutes, but says intermittent 10% duty cycle and does not state the size of the pump used to come up with the runtime. The reviews also state if the power is lost, and the UPS drains to 0 and shuts down, it does not come back up when power is restored. I think that's standard for the computer UPS units like the slickdeal post. Not a big deal for a PC you need to manually power back on anyway, but a bigger deal for the pump since you want it to work even if you are not at home to tend to it. If you go this route you would need another solution and be prepared to get home immediately to switch from the UPS to another power source.

I mainly brought it up, because people do hook these to their internet equipment so a laptop is useful during a power outage. The increase in working from home has caused more people to look for a solution to minimize downtime and employers pointing out this is why they should be traveling daily to an office.

I mean, even the cheap small units designed for your internet equipment use much smaller lithium batteries and cost half the price of this, or the ryobi days inverter + two 4ah batteries. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HDC236Q/

No. I have tried some years ago for that purpose and ended up adding a small water pump with a similar UPS as a back up. Finally, my main sump pump died, and I replaced it with a dual pump system with battery backup 3 years ago for ~$400 (including a large marine battery). This thing can keep the sump pump running for days during a blackout while the UPS with the small pump would last an hour or two (just give me enough time to set up the generator). Note that you need not just a backup power but also a back up pump for your sump pump.

Nope the low end APC ones still suck, plugged a vacuum my mistake into the battery side on a 900VA APC unit I bought a few years ago... killed it instantly.

How significant is the difference between simulated and true sine wave? I plan on using it to give my PC enough time to save and also stay on when the power flickers. It has an EVGA G2 650 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply.

The main difference between a pure sine wave UPS system and a simulated sine wave UPS system is that a pure sine wave system in battery backup mode is guaranteed to produce a cleaner output for any piece of equipment connected to it, whether it's a desktop computer, lab equipment or a server in a data center. The same cannot be said of a modified system, which produces a stepped approximation to a sine wave when on battery. Its output is choppier and provides equipment with a less stable output waveform.

Interesting. I have a 650 and it will just immediately turn off if we loose power on my 3080.

I use one to plug my tankless water heater into. Last time we had a power outage it was two days and I was able to keep taking hot showers. It's a gas tankless though, I don't think it would run an electric tankless for even a minute lol.
