Actually a good deal if you compare this bike shop quality bike to top three brands models.

Schwinn Axum DP is better than this in every way except the brakes.

I bought the CTY 1.1 for $550 last year for regular price (and received 10% back from membership).
Damn inflation!

I honestly feel insulted as an REI Co-op Member. Over $500 for a bike and it's equipped with Shimano Tourney? Lol. My Huffy Mojave Gulch bike that I got from Shopko for ~$89 when I was in grade school had a Shimano Tourney.

Yep I read the reviews and seems in past it had a different groupset.

I guess it's about personal preference and how much money you want to spend… nothing wrong with 3x7 on the urban bike or for touring. It's also great when pulling a trailer on hills.

as a beginner it's a good climbing bike for me at this price range, though on road. Riding up to the elevation of 800 ft.

No, it's about 30lbs so the bike is heavy

Have one and enjoy it quite a bit. Dig the wide handlebars and use it on trails and for general biking. Shifting doesn't seem too bad, but their bike tech was on the ball and I get free adjustments for a year. Definitely better bikes, but great for what I use it for. Everything local in my area was pretty high priced for XL bikes.

Yup, and there are $1000 bikes with Altus components now. That is the sad reality of our market these days.
