I read the About AARP. It sounds like a cult that costs money.

Don't sign up for AARP unless you are doing it for a specific use. I signed a friend up as a joke and they were inundated with junk mail from AARP and their associates on a daily basis. It was endless. Even after we cancelled the membership, the junk mail kept coming.

Is AARP worth it for hotel and travel discounts?

I remember that AAA (a much more expensive membership) had a mix of hotel, restaurant, travel benefits, free maps, free towing, etc. The only significant benefit for me was the towing (if/when I needed it). Ultimately, I canceled.

I have roadside assistance through my car insurer (State Farm. I pay $4.42 every 6 months. Here are the benefits:

What does roadside assistance cover?

If you have emergency road service coverage, and your vehicle breaks down or becomes disabled, we'll pay for reasonable, emergency services.

• Mechanical labor at the breakdown site (up to one hour).
• Towing to the nearest repair location if the covered vehicle is not drivable.
• Towing if the covered car is stuck on or immediately next to a public road.
• Delivery of gas, oil, battery, or change of tire (but not the cost of these or similar items) necessary to return a covered vehicle back to driving condition.
• Locksmith labor to unlock a covered car if its key is lost, stolen, or locked inside the car (up to one hour).

I already do because I turned the magical age of eligibility. I dont go to Dennys or any of those cheap restaurants, dont need AAA, shitty life insurance benefits, or any other so called "deals" because for $9 youre not going to get much except on a cold call or mailing list....so yeah absolutely pointless.

I read that if you make a claim on roadside assistance with insurance, it gets recorded and would bump insurance premiums. Is that the case with statefarm
