I used to be a full-on headphoniacal collector. These are, IMHO, the pinnacle intersection of cost vs performance.

There ABSOLUTELY are better. However, not without spending significantly more money.

Widely recognized as one of the best deals on excellent headphones. Great detail and soundstage. The bass isn't as pronounced as bassheads might wish. But I second this poster; they will fit loosely unless you have a big noggin.

Great price for decent headphones. These are the most comfortable/cool headphones in my small collection. I do have a small head and they fit loose on my head.

At $61 these are a must buy if your looking to dip your toes into better audio.

This seller sucks. Bought 10 pairs of x2hr for a giveaway all were used. Screw them.

What other headphones have you used for comparison?

Do these need an amplifier?

No, these are 32 ohm. You don't really need an amp until you get much further north https://www.headphonesty.com/head...alculator/

Has omnidirectional pattern, so only for quiet spaces. Not my opinion, says so on Vmoda website. Just sayin' because that won't work for me. Too much noise here.
I have a vmoda boom pro and it's not very good, it barely picks up my voice sometimes I have to talk loud.

I've tried practically everything under $50 and several at the < 100 mark.

I was on a search for the budget kings and spent way too much time and cash on things like JVC Flats, Koss KSC75 etc...

Here is what I'll say: They aren't loud enough for me playing FPS games trying to hear a pin drop half a mile away. Some games that won't matter. a game where you need to listen for footsteps it becomes a problem imo. for like 99% of what people will use them for they don't need an amp, but for someone like me you probably will. As a result I just stuck with closed back wireless headphones that were louder but didn't sound quite as good. An amp may have fixed that problem though.

Not really. They drive pretty easily.

I just updated from these to a pair of DT-990-250ohm

It is an upgrade but the Phillips are extremely comfortable for long sessions of ANYTHING (music, video games, zoom, etc...) and since the cable is detachable you can add a v-moda mic https://www.amazon.com/V-MODA-Boo.../B00BJ17WK and create the ultimate Zoom headset. The fact they are open back means you can still hear yourself and not end up yelling. I shared an office with my wife during most of Covid and had to switch to the open backs or found myself yelling.

These let in all noise, cause you know open back, so not for loud places but if you don't own an open back pair and want to grab on these are the ones to get

If on a Windows PC I do suggest trying out of the EQ settings

https://www.reddit.com/r/oratory1...s_shp9500/

It's a little wonky but worth it
I have had the 9500 with V-Moda combo for 4 straight years gaming every night with zero issues and great sound.

I have a big head and these fit comfortable and loose on my head as well. I use it for gaming and can wear them for hours. In contrast, my Sennheiser HD600 hurts my ears after a while. The extra clamp force is noticeable after hours of wearing them.

I've had these for a year and really like them. For anyone not reading the details, they are *not* noise cancelling. Also, VERY long cord comes with the headphones (1.5m or almost 5 feet) which is sometimes too long if you just plug them into your phone and want to walk somewhere

Any similar recommendation for a closed back headphones that is good yet budget friendly?
There is a guy who sells 3d printed cups to cover the open parts to turn them into closed back.

Yeah I have these and these sounds better then the $150 Sen I have. Also to add these were $50 when I got them and always been. Either price went up or depends on where.
