These 3 TVs have VA Panels... not included in Rtings reviews of these series.
Rtings only reviewed ADS/IPS panel versions (low contrast ratio), therefore,
since Rtings heavily weights contrast ratio in their reviews, these VA panel
versions(higher contrast ratio) will rate higher than the Rtings reviews
suggest.

VA and IPS are LCD panel types. The basic models are just called "LED," technically speaking, they are LCDs that have LEDs making up the backlight. They are called LED because manufacturers wanted to differentiate them from older LCDs that had fluorescent backlights. QLED (Samsung tech) and Nanocell (LG tech) are upgrades to these that improve color, but they still use the same LCD panels. For example, most-if-not-all Samsung QLED television use VA panels.

OLED is a totally different technology. Highest contrast and great viewing angles, but notably more expensive than LCD based LED/QLED/Nanocell LED sets.

Between VA and IPS, generally VA is said to be better for movies because it has better contrast which is especially desirable when the room is pretty dark. IPS has better viewing angles (meaning the picture quality doesn't degrade much when viewed at an angle.) I personally prefer VA because I always take the best seat with a straight on viewing angle so the picture is great. laugh out loud

Here's a page with some videos showing how the various panels perform when viewed from a wider and wider angle. Might make more sense. Scroll down to the videos section.

Looks pretty good with the free soundbar + subwoofer. Soundbar doesn't have 4k passthrough but that's expected, all three TVs have an ARC HDMI port and an optical output.

Rtings reviews are of limited usefulness since they reviewed smaller 65 inch "siblings" that use complete different panel tech (the 65" versions use ADS panels, the TVs in this deal use VA panels. The TVs in this deal would score higher on Rtings categories that use contrast as a factor, but would score lower in categories that use viewing angle as a factor.)

Nanocell is very similar to Samsung's "quantum dot" QLED, right?

Don't VA panels have poor viewing angles? If so it'd be pretty bad for my living room.

Save yourself. Get at least NANO cell. The base (cheapest) is very dim and dull. I returned it after and an hour.

So you bought the $599 and returned it for the $699 version and are saying the difference in price was worth it? Was the picture quality substantially different in ur opinion?

Thanks

How good of a deal is this? Moving in 2 months and looking for a living room tv, curious how the deals have been on TV's lately might pass and wait on something to come up in the near future. Nanocell over this for $100 more?
