I built a deck with this set, no problems whatsoever.

This set is great for the price. Since I bought this set 2ish years ago, I rarely use my 18v Makita stuff for small projects around the house. Lighter and easier to carry/maneuver with. You aren't going to build a deck with this set, but that isn't what you buy this set for. This is the set I always recommend for coworkers/friends wanting a first set

Great kit. Never pay more than $99 for this. Not because it's not worth it, it's probably worth every penny of the retail price, but because it reliably hits $99 at least 3-4 times a year.

I disagree. Brushless will perform better and more reliably long-term. Worth it if you're starting your tool collection. This is a decent kit but I prefer the Milwaukee M12 Fuel line which has been $120-150 on sale for similar tools.

That said, this is fine for $99 and if someone is just screwing stuff in or drilling a couple holes a year then I can see brushless not mattering. Just depends on use case.
Go brushed for these Bosch tools. Their brushless tools are only marginally better and my PS22 brushless has an annoying trigger delay. Also, at $150 you're near (or sometimes at when on-sale) brushless combinations from DeWalt or Milwaukee, which will be noticeably better tools and a larger ecosystem.

For me, the CLPK27-120 [amazon.com] kit, which includes the same PS41 impact but the PS21 pocket driver (1/4" hex) instead of the PS31 drill (with 3/8" chuck) is $109.00, but there is a $20 at-checkout coupon for $89 total. I don't know whether the $20 coupon is targeted. You wouldn't want a pocket driver as your only drill, but it's spectacular as a sibling.

This is a great set of starting tools that I bought 5 years ago and the batteries still going strong. Only downside about this new set from Amazon are the new compact charger are cheaply make and not as tough as the old one. The old charger I been drop them left or right and they are still work.

Is brushless version worth it at $50 more?
Not to me but I already have a brushless 20V setup if I need more power and/or a 1/2" chuck. I've had the Bosch for about 7 years now and I still love them and use them all the time.

These are "finesse" tools and are great for the average DIYer. I have three sets of cordless tools: 18V DeWalt, 18V Ridgid, and 12V Craftsman Nextec from about 10 years ago. The POS Nextel tools are my go to tools as they have just the right amount of power to complete 99% of jobs. I expect that the Nextec batteries do not have a lot of life yet. When they die, I would consider these tools as a replacement. Milwaukee's 12V set is nice but waaaay overpriced IMHO.

I have this and it is fantastic for me as the occasional DIY homeowner.

However, I do regret buying into the Bosch ecosystem and should have went Ryobi instead. The Bosch 12v line doesn't have that many tools, so when I needed a circular saw or nailer there were no options but corded or buy into another battery system. Yeah, these 12v tools are lighter and easier to use, but for very occasional use I wouldn't have minded if they're bigger and heavier.

I have DeWalts flagship drill, it's awful for putting together furniture. It's way too big and heavy which is what I was afraid of. These small drills do just as good of job for driving in fasteners or drilling small holes. If you're doing something big like a large spade bit, then thats when your big drill comes in handy. Otherwise this style is best for day-to-day use.

This looks like a pretty nice set, but someone pointed out the Milwaukee M12 set is also on sale for $99 with two batteries and a bag.

Kind of on the fence. I already have the Ryobi brushless compact drill and driver. But they look pretty big compared to these, and I'm not impressed with the impact drivers performance.

You don't want this: the PS41 impact is weak. You'll want something like Milwaukee's M12 fuel kit [homedepot.com]. I assume there is an equivalent DeWalt kit.

Significantly more powerful impact, 1/2" drill chuck (vs. Bosch's 3/8"), hammer-drill functionality, and a 4.0Ah battery. Plus a far larger ecosystem for future additions like an inflator or stubby.

I do prefer how the Bosch tools feel in my hand, which I assume is because their batteries are rotated 60 degrees vs. Milwaukee's.

My electrician used a PS41 to tighten breaker screws because its body is all plastic and because it was weak.

At that sale price I would definitely go with Milwaukee. For $100 you get into the ecosystem at a reasonable price. You can then purchase additional tools as you need them.

This is a better deal just because there are more 12V milwaukee tools available. Bosch tools tend to be pricier as well. I would buy this if I didn't already have a fair number of Ryobi 18V tools and 6 batteries.

Agreed. I am strongly considering purchasing this set, even though I have an existing set of Craftsman 12V tools that are getting long in the tooth.
