Wicked high salt content...most tunas are 225-350 mg sodium....this is 500mg, nearly a quarter the recommended daily restriction...

The sodium is higher, but this is the best tuna in a can I have had. I can eat it straight out of the can.

The real problem is the mercury.

Skipjack and canned light tuna, which are relatively low in mercury, can be eaten as part of a healthy diet. However, albacore, yellowfin and bigeye tuna are high in mercury and should be limited or avoided.

So you shouldn't be eating more than 1 can a week. If you are pregnant or nursing, avoid large fish consumption.

But yeah, this Genova tuna is super yummy.

who cares??? millions of people care about not dying prematurely, and there are a huge number of people whose doctors have them on a low sodium diet because that whole premature dying thing is a more immediate concern for them than for most of us. yes, it is very important. (one might argue that people on a medical low-sod diet shouldn't be eating saltwater fish at all, but you know people)

In what way is mercury the "real" problem? The number of people who die from fish-mercury-related causes is many many orders of magnitude smaller than the number who die from high sodium intake causes. It's not that mercury in fish isn't a problem, or isn't bad, it is. but if one of these two things is the ":real" problem it's definitely the sodium. Unless you're pregnant, etc. of course. Then I'd worry more about the mercury. But only then.
