I submitted price feedback to amazon to see if they will match.

From anecdotal reports that appears to be by far the most common drive, but there is no guarantee. Worst case it is an Ironwolf, which is not that bad of a worst case.

Don't really care for shucking (will be using this as an external drive), how does this compare with the WD My Book series (specifically the recent 18TB deal)? From this post in a recent thread, it appears to be a WD180EDGZ drive - how does that compare to the Exos/Ironwolfs?

Nobody really knows. Any data on previous generations isn't exactly relevant to newer production, and anecdotes seem to be mixed.

Both are decent enough, I'd just get whatever is cheaper when you need it.

No comparison. Seagate is infinitely better. WD do NOT honor any warranty. Seagate warranty process is easy and quick

I'd be afraid like with the WD easystore external drives, where they finally replaced the drive inside from WD Red so some generic WD 'white label', using air instead of helium. My external drive overheated during a burn-in so I just returned it.

I hope these are still the awesome EXOS ones!!

If anyone gets one and opens it up, please post what drive you found inside. Thanks in advance

I'm for one. My wife takes so many pics. This should be enough space for a bit.

Ironwolf Pros are great drives and the warranty exchange (non-shucked) took me less than two weeks, on a drive I bought on Reddit! So exos or not I'm in for 1.

P.S. For all you shuckers Amazon has the 16TB Exos for $282. Not as slick of a deal but $32 to save the time, or if you need it before breakfast http://www.amazon.com/dp/B07SPFPK...UTF8&psc=1

Not that price with Amazon as the seller.
At least (unlike for WD) you can go by mfg date for warranty if you go 3P. Just likely older stock than Amazon's, which is currently $319.99.
I read on SD threads that WD rejects warranty for purchases from non-auth resellers. No 1st hand experience myself though.

I was happy to see your post but it appears by the comments the drives sold by these random sellers have no warranty. Not worth the risk
