So, here's my fun story from last Saturday.

Last week, I received a AT&T promo via snail mail for a $150 gift if I ordered AT&T Fiber. I almost threw it out with the rest of the junk mail. There was a URL listed on the mail and I visited the URL to get a feel for what the offer was. Well, the URL took me to a $200 promo ($50 more than what came through snail mail) if I ordered online. Great. I was happy that I would get $50 more just for ordering online. $55 per month plus tax and some TX fees, no equipment fee, no data cap, no contract, no termination fee, no price increase at 12 months for 300 Mbps up / 300 Mbps down. Autopay and paperless billing is required. Compared to the Spectrum service I have now which is the same $55 per month and same terms but without the 'no price increase in 12 months' and 200 Mbps down / 10 Mbps up. Well, it looked like I could save some money over what I had and it came with $200 gift and no price increase in 12 months. Not bad. I called Spectrum to see if they can match/beat and they basically told me to go away.

So, I am in the process of placing the order on the website when Hannah from AT&T pops up via chat to see if I needed help placing the order. How kind of Hannah. Further, Hannah informs me that she can offer $250 in promo (another extra $50) if I let her place the order. Hmmm....someone will pay me an extra $50 for not typing on the keyboard?! As I am chatting with Hannah and confirming that there are no hidden traps and all same terms apply, the website gets worried I might not order and tempts me with an additional $100 promo (ACTNOW, I think was the code) if I completed the order placement. So, I am now at $300 in promotions, double of where I started with the postal mail offer, but now I have to place the order. I have to type now, oh mercy?

To this, Hannah says she can beat that and can offer $450 if she places the order. So, again for not typing my name. address, etc. AT&T will pay me an additional $100?! Wow! I asked Hannah to stop twisting my arm and go ahead and place the order. In the span of 20 minutes, I went from a $150 promo to a $450 promo. I am getting paid big bucks to do nothing! I am still shaking my head and incredulous about all of this.

Install was set for two days later with the tech scheduled to arrive between 2 - 4pm on Monday. Come Monday and past 4pm, no sign of the install person. I thought I was dreaming it all up but finally at 4:45pm, the tech calls and shares that he is on his way and will be there in 30-45 minutes. Long story short, install was completed around 7:30pm that evening. Fiber is now in hanging in the back alley and an AT&T subcontractor will be here next week to bury the fiber. Fingers crossed something does not go bad before the fiber is buried. I plan to cancel my Spectrum connection only after the fiber is buried. I work from home and internet is a must. BTW, AT&T Fiber speed test shows around 380 Mbps up and down. Works for me.

A couple of things to be aware of:
AT&T install requires a box installation at the point of entry into the house and another face plate type installation in the room where the modem is setup on the inside of the house. Mine is installed in the center of the 2400 sq ft house and signal quality in all rooms is solid. Both, the Wifi speed and Wired speed show 380Mpbs speeds. Nice! The modem/router/ONT box is bulky and I got the Nokia BGW-320 505 box. No user guide/manual is provided and I could not find one on the AT&T site. The device does not have the most user friendly UI, DNS is locked to AT&T and the overall functionality seems to be limited compared to other routers that I have used. I have not yet activated their included ActiveArmor functionality - want to understand what it is first and be sure it does not mine/monitor traffic for reasons beyond security. Since DNS is locked, I expect AT&T to have visibility into the activity, atleast the destination. I may have to put my own router with a different DNS (e.g. Cloudflare) behind the AT&T box....I do not want to spend time reading the fine print and legalese to see if AT&T mines my activity. They used to in the past, IIRC.
Don't use active armor. It's junk and doesn't help at all. It's just another layer of network monitoring / data collection.

Use your own box to avoid their monitoring, but be aware that passthrough limits your bandwidth intentionally. Unless you do this, they capture all of your traffic for sale to third parties.

I did this a few months ago and AT&T only gave me part of the money. I had to call and ask about the extra money. They finally mailed the rest of it. Just sharing my story if someone has the same trouble. Just call them and ask.

What additional fees does ATT charge?
A bunch of little fees like passthrough local taxes charged to them but passed onto you, federal broadband program fees that again shouldn't be charged to you, etc... Adds up to $3+

It's a scam. AT&T hasn't given me my gift cards 2 times now.
Really? Received all of my gift cards, no problem. You can use the gift cards to pay for your internet so it's a great deal.

This or now that Verizon and T-Mobile have 5G home internet coverage? Assuming they are available for your address, does anyone have feedback if they ditched ATT fiber, and went with 5G instead? If you are a Verizon mobile customer for example, the 5G home internet can be as low as $25. Looking for feedback from folks who have done it.
Depends on your area and coverage.

Some areas have great 5g availability and capacity, so everything is great, but if you only have 1 or 2 bars, then it'll be a waste of time.

Just remember, 5g will have a data cap, unlike some fiber connections, so if you plan on a lot of surfing and streaming, it's something to keep in mind.

If you call and complain right when your bill goes up the loyalty department will make your $60 price for life. Very important to talk about unsubscribing and switching to competitor. It may be too late for you now, but hopefully that helps someone else. Customer retention is very important to ISPs. Providing you service is basically free to them. So if you are subscribed to the other guy its almost a 100% profit loss on your monthly fee for them.
I wish people would stop stating incorrect info.

Existing customers are 3 things:
1.easily abused
2.will tolerate multiple price increases
3.add little to the bottom line

New customers:
1.They benefit sales metrics.
2.Look great to shareholders.
3.Can convince them to bundle services, sign up for new services, and generally spend more over time.
4.Will turn into existing customers, who will tolerate price increases with no benefits.

It's better in the short run for companies to heavily promote and attract new customers, than to retain existing ones, otherwise, why would they offer up from $450 to get you to sign up? Why wouldn't they offer something / anything to existing customers? Why do you have to reach out to them to beg for a discount??

Car and Home insurance works the same way. They use a formula to keep increasing your premiums until you reach a point where you start shopping around. It doesn't hurt them, since they exist to collect profit and rarely pay out. If you leave, there is always another sucker to sign up and keep paying to get nothing in return.

I pulled th a trigger 450 cash back in offer , can't pass that. Atleast I can test there services compared to crapcast. Plus they will give me early termination fees. I assume download upload speed is same.

Sucks about your home a/c, been there and didn't even get a t-shirt.

Nope and it'll bounce back pretty quick. Unless you're going for another loan, it seems like a non-issue?
Nobody told me that when I became a homeowner, that I needed to budget as much for A/C equipment as I do for electricity!

Agree that it is a non-issue, but I might worry a little bit if I was in the market for a mortgage.

The passthrough option cuts your bandwidth in half. If you have 1gig, you'll only get <50% of that.

They do this intentionally. While they offer an option to use your own equipment, they neuter it, so it'll piss you off.

This and all the 'at&t fiber google wifi slow' internet chatter makes me think twice about giving up my perfectly working setup until Spectrum raises my rate for 200Mbps to over $50 in 3 months.

The good news for me is that even half download and the slow/capped reports with google wifi would still fit my needs. Everything that can be wired is wired and my bandwidth needs are defined two streams of 4K/HD video consumption.

My address only have Internet 100 available, at the same cost $55/month as the Internet 300.

My question is, would it qualify for this deal?

Not anymore. Ended 6/5.

This promotion ended for AT&T Fiber on June 5, 2022. You must use your access to HBO Max to keep your eligibility for this promotion. If you don't, your HBO Max promotion may be expired.

Yup, I've had it for a few years. Was $60 at first, now it's $80.

Don't expect your low promo price to exist after a year. You can call and ask for an adjustment, but it depends on the agent.

If you're good with rotating between providers, that's probably going to be your best bet.
Anyway to remove the $10 equipment fee for existing users?
