Our friends who lives literally across the main street from us have AT&T Fiber, but the service is not available for us. What the hell? Did they just run their fiber up to across the street and say let's screw that whole neighborhood over there? It's literally only about 300ft away.

Used to pay $60 with equipment for 1G line that got increased to $70 a few months back. ATT has been raising price on that.

It could be because your neighborhood has outdated equipment and changing them do not worth it. Could be because marketing team estimated as area that is not going to bring enough customers.
New developments in my area are all getting wired to fiber. It is the easiest way to install it without replacement.
When the supervisor showed up to inspect the fiber lines being run through my neighborhood underground, I asked if they were going to go across the street to the "in laws" neighborhood.

They said basically what you just said. That neighborhood despite being large expensive homes, was not worth the effort at that time. Outdated equipment etc etc, too few homes etc etc.

I wonder how my 50 home neighborhood got on the list! I was able to get on the early adopter price.

From a review standpoint: I have gig fiber since it was originally offered. I have only called support twice in 5 years. Once was someone drove over the pedestal and the other was a bad firmware update disabled wifi.

I stopped using their modem for wifi and use two Ubiquiti U6-LR access points mounted in the middle of my house on the first and second floor. For devices that can use wifi-6, they can get downloads at ~500-600mbps.

Going to gig fiber stopped kids from complaining about internet speed/lag, and going to u6-lr access points stopped them from complaining about dead spots in the house.

How does AT&T fiber hold up against Cox (cable), both as a service but also as a company?

Cox has been easy to keep ongoing discounts ($55/month for gigabit and unlimited data) without raising it for a few years. Service used to be terrible but has been fine since Covid. They also don't push me to upgrade or add services.

Is ATT easy to deal with it or do prices go up regularly (it sounds like there's no contract/commitment?)
First, all companies suck. They've all got issues and thankfully I've been lucky with ATT and was very unlucky with Comcast. YMMV.

cable internet is apples and fiber internet is oranges, regardless of providers.

Fiber isn't affected by how many people have the same service, or are using the same service at the same time. When I had Comcast cable gig, the download speeds would drop significantly after 5pm. Since I work from home, it was noticeable. When most people weren't home using their data, I had lots of bandwidth. This is because Cable internet is a shared pipe.

Fiber internet is a dedicated line to your home that isn't shared. It is less impacted by the number of users. Just like the ADSL/DSL lines were less impacted by "peak time" usage.

I was interested in using Comcast gif as a backup since I work remote. I canceled that after about two months. The after five pm speed was about 250mbps. Work hours I didn't go much past 500mbps. No where near the gig speeds.

With fiber gig through ATT in northeast Atlanta, I get 950up/down on my HTPC and my personal laptops on a hardline, not wifi.

Unfortunately, due to my companies firewalls/vpn/virus scanning programs sniffing my packets, the work computer sees 750mbps on a hard line to the modem.

I am currently on ATT Fiber at $80 a month and got the $350 for switching from Xfinity.
Hope there is a deal like $50 or $60 for 1GB plan.
They slow your data after a certain GB used?

What additional fees does ATT charge?
It probably varies by area, but my bill is $80.36 for the $80 plan.

When I signed up I took advantage of the promotions up to $350. I received an email to claim the $200 reward card, but not the other two yet. Are we supposed to get an email to claim other reward cards, too?
I signed up and there was a $250, $50, and the additional $100. I got the emails for the $250 and $50 within a week or so, but the extra $100 took a bit longer to get the email.

I'm currently paying 100/month for Fiber 1000 and the only option on my account was to switch to 300mbps for 80/month, so I signed out and went through the checkout process to get the $400 rewards and 300mbps for 55/month. Service is supposed to activate tomorrow and I will cancel the existing account once the new one is running.

so you signed up with a different email? could work but they might catch on and not deliver on the rewards or price since technically you're an existing customer. dont they ask for your social security number?

I've lived in Los Angeles and Washington DC the last few years (in 5 different apartments). Each one I was given the option of ONE internet provider. If I didn't want to go with them the only other option was a cellular internet that maxed out at 25mbps.

They were trying to install for me this morning but unsuccessful because my neighbor backyard door was locked. They need to access my neighbor backyard to run the fiber line from there into my house backyard. This is not good and I probably not rescheduling this installation.

What is the installation process like? If I currently have comcast internet and there's already a line, does an installation guy have to come into the apt/house and replace the comcast one with at&t?

I got my promo extended in March this year for 1G $49.99. I was surprised to see $200 rebate for renewal when I got the email 60-days after new term start. Even if it is not as good as new customer deal, there seems to be something for existing.
Nice! I got the $200 as well.
