So maybe Octane batteries are coming back to Home Depot? These things basically have a cult following.

Very interesting! I hope it's a real comeback because I have several Octane tools and I'm not sure if the Max Output batteries take advantage of the Octane design. I am tempted but I have too many batteries as is for the amount that I use the tools.

The Octane tools perform almost as well with Max Output as with these. The 21700 cells perform negligibly better in tests, but they aren't worth more money to me for just one or two percent more power.

To me the best part of these is the rubber overmilding. They cheaper out on that on Max Output.

The Max Output bats have the same outside connections that Octane bats have. The standard bats do not have those. Octane tools may perform just slightly better with Octane bats. I use 4ah Max bats with Octane tools and have no complaints.

Not giving this deal a TU or TD. Octane is discontinued. The 21700 cells and the blue tooth novelty make these bats special, I guess....

I believe the Max Output 21700s are starting to get out there. I can't remember but I think the 6AH Max Output could be 21700.

Most of my tools are Octane. I happened to see this set on Direct Tools over the weekend and jumped on it during the 20% off sale. Ended up getting them for $77 or so plus the new huge shipping fee of $13. I was getting a few other things too so that softened the shipping.

Surprised they are showing up at HD tho. I thought I just got lucky and DT found a little surplus in a back room somewhere. Interesting to see what happens with these.

I have about a dozen batteries, the Octane and Max output perform in real world use identically. I agree with Selman, the rubber protectors on the Octane make them superior for me. Plus, they stand up better on my drill if I set it down on the battery on the floor. If I needed more I'd be getting Octane.

The 6 Ah Max Output uses 18650's. I believe the 8 Ah that is supposed to now come out in the fall are also 18650's, but we shall see.

I have close to 20 Ridgid batteries. The 4 Ah Max Output performs about the same as the 3 Ah Octane but does have better run time according to my vacuum test. I too like the wide stance of the 3 Ah Octane, you don't feel like your drill, etc., might tip over when you set it down.
