The software leaves a lot to be desired. The main attraction is that most of the features run locally and do not require an internet connection (No tracking).
They want to make it hard so people don't do it. I will fight for every dollar, just to make a point. Hopefully it costs them even more to deal with it
This is a great product. It doesn't take a lot to get it going. I left Smartthings when this came out as I was just not liking how much they changed from when Smartthings first came out. I'm since moved on to Home Assistant which I'm really enjoying. I have my Habitat hooked up to Home Assistant for a few devices still that I haven't moved over. I have Home Assistant connected to HomeKit for Siri integration, but use a Home Assistant dashboard to manually control things.

How is the software? We moved and I ditched the smartthings to see if I could use Alexa only but found limitations.

Damn, just bought this on Amazon last week for $10 more.. In the old days, they would price match, but the last time I contacted them, they told me that they would rather me return mine, then buy again at a price matched price, which is so weird.

Another attractive feature to many is the fact that you can get plugins to get it to talk to Homebridge, which you can then get waaaay more stuff into Homekit, if you are in the iOS ecosystem.

My past hub controller was a Vera Lite and I really liked it. Everything ran locally on the hub. I could even add my POE cameras in the Web UI and it came with an app for your phone. The problem was I wanted to run Zigbee and Wi-Fi devices and it was only Zwave. I switched to the SmartThings hub and I don't like it at all. Not much flexibility and I don't like your limited to the phone app and can't sign in from a desktop. I haven't had much luck finding a replacement.

You can though: my.smartthings.com. It's not as "robust" (and I use that term loosely) as the app, but you can do most things there.

your response, at your billable rate, at least doubles that perceived loss

I bought this around Christmas time for the same price as I wanted to get away from SmartThings. There is a learning curve, so don't get frustrated. There are some good forums for info and of course generic web searches if needed. I still have more to learn, but the more I work with it, the more I like it.

Found the interface tedious and had issues pairing simple things like light bulbs.

I like that it runs locally, but they really need to improve the app / interface. It was pretty slow and awkward to use. Returned mine and will wait for significant improvements.

Left Wink when they went sub only, left smart things after some outages.

The hubitat is very capable but it is not intuitive at all. Once it's working it's great but there are some leaps to get there. Once you do though, it's nice and integrates with Alexa as well.

I've got my zwave, zigbee, water sensors and even tp-link/Kasa stuff configured and working well now with a phone accessible dashboard. Still - it's a pita.

Very customizable, very hard to use. If you are coming from SmartThings, I felt like this had a huge learning curve and it wasn't intuitive. I returned it. I run a media server, and decided to just create a VM and run HomeAssistant instead. Love HA.
