Yeah, not same quality... Bought smart electrician gfci and it kept tripping... Swapped it with a leviton gfci, problems went away... So now I stay away from their generic brand
2. Having a USB in the outlet is a matter of convenience and you're willing to accept replacing again if it burns out. The few I have would be replaced immediately with like units because I like having them so much.
And wouldn't you rather have a "fried" unit inside a proper gang box rated for some fire protection versus a charging brick that could spark a curtain or something else?
3. Again, convenience of have a usb readily available even if it's slow.

I also have couple generic brand Gfci outlets and the red LED blinks every couple minutes, not sure what cause the issue.

SmartElectrician brand (Menard's private label) is complete garbage. From my experience, their GFCI's false trip more commonly than any other brand I've used. Replace the outlet with a Legrand (Pass & Seymour) or Leviton and the issue is magically resolved so it's not an issue with the load. This isn't a GFCI but the overall quality of their products is poor so I'd steer clear.
The OP's product might be slower to charge but it'll likely work correctly longer than the SmartElectrician equivalent.
1. Bigger than a regular socket, so if you retrofit homes with small electrical boxes, won't fit sometimes.
Too lazy here to rip out the old box just to install this socket (which I got when Leviton was handing them out free earlier).
2. Unlike a plug in charger that can be replaced when it fries or breaks, you'll need to replace the entire socket.
Also, what happens in the wall when these fry and die? Pray the electronics never spark and burn like the rare charger fire.
3. True leading edge chargers like the 100w+ ones powering Chinese smartphones charge far, far faster than the charger in this socket.
1. Valid point.

But I thought USB-A is passé and the must have thing is USB-C.
People act like having an extra cord around is going to slow them down in life lol..So many people jumping on the band wagon to modernize everything for "convenience" yet are completely comfortable with paying for the "convenience" with safety..#Murrikah
Glad I didn't put these in all my receptacles when I redid my house two years ago like I was planning, almost none of the charging cords I've gotten since then have been usb-a lol

Yea, I was about buy one for my island. Then I noticed how thick it was at the store. I can barely fit a thin box inside without hitting the drawer and the box won't be able to accommodate this socket. I can barely fit a regular socket. Such a tight squeeze when you're also tying another line to another socket.
I find it more convenient to just buy a usb block or plug in adapter, especially when the plug ins are always changing. Imo

Hah, I just went to the product page and I ordered this in 2015. They've been working great in the kitchen since then.
