Yep. And it sounds like dropping the home button allowed them to increase the viewable screen size without making it bigger overall…

Thinking about the iPad Air 4 as the successor to the iPad Air 3, you can see how removing the home button from the bottom of the screen gave Apple the ability to increase its screen size, as the iPad Air 4's 10.9-inch screen is bigger than the iPad Air 3's 10.5-inch panel.

Measuring 9.7 x 7 x 0.2 inches and weighing 1 pound even, the iPad Air 4 has the same measurements as the 11-inch iPad Pro, while being slightly thinner and lighter than the 10.2-inch iPad (9.8 x 6.8 x 0.3 inches, 1.1 pounds).
This will last 5-8 years before it stops receiving updates from Apple. Longer support from developers. Excellent buy I would skip the M1 and take the savings. Assuming is taken care off.
Yeah. It's gonna take Apple a few years to offer higher refresh rates on the entry level. Android only did it three years ago. So maybe another three years. - typical Apple being way behind in keeping up with androids.
Now that Apple confirmed M1 iPads are getting extra functionality with iPadOS 16 I don't think the 2020 Air is worth it anymore, even at this price.
There are plenty of people who just use their iPad for casual web browsing, email, organizing, etc and use a laptop for heavier tasks. Unless someone is planning to actually use the added functionality at some point, it's not worth paying extra for.

True, but those people could just buy the basic iPad. I think it's good to point out the deficiencies with this model.

I think it's more to be thinner than smaller
