Your math is correct, but just know that some Best Buy wouldn't know how to process the enhanced trade in value correctly. I suggest you bring a print out showing the $450 trade in value, but even then, there is no guarantee that you'll get it.

I drove for 20 minutes to a Best Buy the other day just to be told that my phone (Z Flip 3) was not on their trade in list, even though I said I did the same deal just a week ago at a different store. I argued for 20 minutes and didn't get anywhere, so the next day I went to a different store and got the deal in less than 10 minutes.

Not all Best Buy employees are trained the same, so don't be discouraged if one store says no, and just go to a different one.

FYI, you only get these prices if you activate the phone on the big 4 carriers.

When you go in the store to trade in, many of them will have trouble with the trade in value. They'll offer you whatever low amount they would typically give. You'll need to correct them and tell them it's a promo. Show them the webpage on your phone on the BestBuy site (go to any S22 product page and there's a blue heading above the price, click that).

Then, they may believe you but have trouble figuring out their system. When they pull up the model for the trade in, they have to go past the initial screen. When they do, the promo should show up. Then it's going to ask them for the promo code. That code is literally SAMSUNG. It's nowhere to be found otherwise.

I've traded in 3 phones under this promo because of the high values they're offering. Each experience varied.

1) First store did it without issue once I balked at the low trade in and mentioned the promo. He knew everything.

2) Second store couldn't figure out where the promo was and is responsible for the info I provided above.

3) Third guy refused, said they don't do trade ins and when shown the promo called his manager. Manager said Best Buy would have to be stupid to do this and refused. Lol. This was the same store as the first time, just different employees. Went to another store and they did it just fine.

Point is, the experience will vary widely depending upon the knowledge level of the employee. Just be polite and patient and stick to your guns. Most of them just aren't aware of the promotion or familiar with how to do it. One manager was so happy when I told her I thought I knew the promo code that she fist bumped me and thanked me profusely twice. Only one guy was a complete @$$.

Yeah, that's a pretty thin line already. It wouldn't affect their account if pay in full at purchase. But after entering last 4 of SSN for trade in towards $800 GC, they will ask for your ID. That should be trade related. But after they make the $800 GC for trade, when going to order S22U etc. they will again ask for last for last four of SSN, and ID, and the latter might be carrier account related this time. Not sure, as never attempted such.

In a perfect world, they and you both have phones to upgrade, and you both go into BB and make it happen together (assuming he has a second line available for you to use for the upgrade).
Sounds pretty shady to me, prob better that he didn't go through with it though if wasn't entirely sanctioned, if the friend allowed him to borrow a sim card I would assume that he'd prob be ok with giving last 4 ssn, But in which case why not ask that friend to come down and do the upgrade for him.

If they are close friends treating him or the family to dinner seems like suitable repayment in my book.

Like OP mentioned, I've done 3 upgrades like this, it doesn't affect his account in anyway that I am aware of since phone is paid in full and not a EIP or count against any future upgrade quota that I am aware of. It should be fine even if there were some quote it would be in excess numbers anyway.

Sounds like the deal is going away after tomorrow (seems was extended due to 3 day sale). I would act fast if it were me.

I borrowed a friend's sim to pretend that I was a customer so I could get deal but I dropped out when they ask for the last four.. I absolutely didn't want any chance that my friends account would be affected any at all .

BB associate kept mentioning that it would only be an "upgrade" and no change to service but I was unclear what all that meant for my friends account and didn't want to burden my friend anymore.
Why bother with all that?
Buying the phone with New line activation with T-Mobile is only $799 - then cancel the line.
The phone is totally unlocked.

At Best Buy or Samsung.com?
I tired both and somehow it didnt work. Samsung website can't give me the full $800 even after chatting for 30 mins with the rep while bestbuy refused to match verizon's offer. I just went to the verizon store instead.

Is there any fees incurred for canceling a line?

nope. lots of people did it from last dec deal.

see that thread here:
https://slickdeals.net/f/15498115-new-customers-lines-128gb-samsung-galaxy-s21-5g-smartphone-for-t-mobile-400-free-s-h-activation-needed

i wonder if someone who did this in dec can do this again now.
i.e., activate a new line and then cancel with tmobile. :-)

note that new line price is $100 less ($899 for existing vs. $799 for new) with tmobile.

Depends on the plan you have. I opened TMobile acct at Costco last nov, received byod and 300cash card. I only keep 1 line in $20 unlimited talk and text plan and cancelled the rest lines. I tried to add a new line at BB, it always error out. Wondering if it is because $20 plan is not publicly offered plan.

If I trade in another device through T-Mobile can I also trade in a device to best buy for upgrade. 2 upgrades in 1 day?

Sorry if this has been asked before but what is bestbuy's trade in policy for a cracked back? My Note 20 Ultra is in perfect condition other than the cracked back. I'm debating between this deal and the samsung.com promo but this comes in at a cheaper price for the S22 256gb. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

I'm asking about the Best Buy policy on cracked phone (back not screen) trade-in. If I can get the full trade in value from best buy for my note 20 Ultra, then I will go with that.

guess im getting another s22 ultra from BB. I get rid of both my foldables (one cracked) and get 2 256GB s22 ultras for a mere $380 after taxes. Will either sell one or use one of them to trade in for the s23 ultra i guess.
best buy takes cracked devices? I have a cracked back phone I need to get rid of ...

Went for another go since the first store in Queens denied me and said it was double stacking.

Went to another store in Manhattan and guy knew exactly what he was doing and got things done, printed and signed in all about 20-30 mins (Less if his site wasn't lagging)

$179 after taxes out the door for a T-Mobile branded Unlocked S22 Ultra in Green.

I believe the work around is that if you go the complete unlocked route they would not be able to stack it on top, but if you were to go through your carrier (Note it won't be for EIP) it should apply correctly as the trade in will be processed first, rep has gift card in hand and then applies it to the "Upgrade" transaction and then the rest paid via card.
which store in manhattan?
