I drove for 20 minutes to a Best Buy the other day just to be told that my phone (Z Flip 3) was not on their trade in list, even though I said I did the same deal just a week ago at a different store. I argued for 20 minutes and didn't get anywhere, so the next day I went to a different store and got the deal in less than 10 minutes.
Not all Best Buy employees are trained the same, so don't be discouraged if one store says no, and just go to a different one.
Then, they may believe you but have trouble figuring out their system. When they pull up the model for the trade in, they have to go past the initial screen. When they do, the promo should show up. Then it's going to ask them for the promo code. That code is literally SAMSUNG. It's nowhere to be found otherwise.
I've traded in 3 phones under this promo because of the high values they're offering. Each experience varied.
1) First store did it without issue once I balked at the low trade in and mentioned the promo. He knew everything.
2) Second store couldn't figure out where the promo was and is responsible for the info I provided above.
3) Third guy refused, said they don't do trade ins and when shown the promo called his manager. Manager said Best Buy would have to be stupid to do this and refused. Lol. This was the same store as the first time, just different employees. Went to another store and they did it just fine.
Point is, the experience will vary widely depending upon the knowledge level of the employee. Just be polite and patient and stick to your guns. Most of them just aren't aware of the promotion or familiar with how to do it. One manager was so happy when I told her I thought I knew the promo code that she fist bumped me and thanked me profusely twice. Only one guy was a complete @$$.

I think I'll be ok with 256gb.
I got the phone - it's really in pristine condition. BUT (!!!) I only noticed now - it's Z Flip, not Flip 5G as mentioned in the BB trade in post. That's just crazy how I could have missed that given I was looking for a phone for a good few hours! Anyway I'll still try to do the trade in.
The phone model says its "Galaxy Z Flip" and number is SM-F700U/DS. And indeed - it does not connect to 5G on T-mo... That sucks.

I traded in an A71 5G yesterday for the $200 elevated, even though only A71 is on the Samsung list. However in this case I have the "better" 5G, and I don't think they ever released the A71 4G to the US market (only international), so a mistype or assumption by Samsung on that one.
On a side note, looks like trading in a Z Flip 5G might be easier for the rep than Z Flip3. . .the Z Flip 5G shows up on that first generic list of 28 Samsung phones. . .just click the box wrongly labeled "Z Flip" lol

The rep was super nice and knowledgeable (Cary BestBuy near Raleigh). He asked what is the phone? Like is that a Flip 3 or 2. I said "Well, it's not 3rd" LOL and he was OK with that. Then he took it and checked in the "system" - "About phone" and said OK. Also wrote down IMEI in their system, quickly checked screen and back (phone was almost pristine) and that's it. The only downside - he didn't allow me to apply the gift card value towards "open-box" S22U (ha one available for 899) nor to the T-Mobile version (cost 50 bucks less - 949 vs 999) as he quoted details of this promo as to be applicable ONLY to the purchase of NEW S22 series excluding operator phones and "used". He actually showed me the FULL promo details from some depths of their BB systems. All in all it took merely 10-15 minutes. I spent much more time drooling over the display S22U playing with all that nifty new features and camera (coming from quite old phone)
Since the price was the same across the board for activate now or "later" I selected the "activate later" option just for the convenience of free shipping of the phone to my home address. Should arrive wednesday! I'm so excited, can't wait
Overall it was $368 (with kinda expedited shipping and tax) for the Flip and $272 (999 price - 800 GC + tax) for the total of 640 USD for a brand new S22 Ultra! I'm very satisfied!
Probably will order one more flip to well... flip it for another S22U for my wife
